They (Petitti) at least have to go one way or the other with this, right? I mean they either have to do zero punishment and own that, or bring the ban hammer down and own that. He has to know this can't be a "Harbaugh is hereby suspended for the first quarter of next year's 2 games against Bumblefuck Tech and Hymen A&M", right? Right?

As this is a case of right and wrong, you have to choose a side. Normal people see that.
But we live in a world where normal people don't get certain jobs. Normal people don't have political power. Politicians do. Good officers end at O6 (full bird colonel or navy captain), only politicians get promoted to O7 or above. Normal people don't rise to AD at a Division I University, let alone commissioner of a Power 5 (soon to be Power 2) conference. Only politicians get those jobs.
A politician is precisely the kind of person that looks at this situation and thinks that the best solution is one that leaves both the DFBIA and Buckeye Fans equally angry. Then he'll be shocked, honestly shocked when 12 other current B1G schools and all 4 of the soon-to-be B1G schools join Ohio State in telling him that he is at perfect liberty to go self-copulate but he will no longer be Commissioner of the B1G

The day fast approaches. Soon it will arrive and I am filled with anticipation, nervous energy, the nagging sense of dread, and yet the gift of optimism that only comes from opportunity. As I reflect, the emotions flood back as if it were only yesterday, yet it was 50 years ago. You see, in a few short days, on the eve of The Game, it will be exactly 50 years to the day. The following day will arrive and I can’t help but see the similarities. While some things are slightly different, all the important details are the same.
As it was, number 1 facing number 4, both teams undefeated, the opportunity for a Big Ten championship and National title hung in the balance. As it was then, much is the same today. All I really wanted was to Beat Blue. The Big Ten and National titles would be small consolation without dispatching our hated rival. I knew what was at stake. A year of remorse and angst in defeat versus the joy and excitement of victory. I would like to say I prefer the joy and excitement of victory, but I often wonder if I really desire the pain and humiliation Michigan must endure in defeat.
This year, when we face Michigan, will be exactly 50 years and a day. 50 years and a day to the moment we showed Michigan how to correctly steal signs. By the team, on the field of play, for the whole world to see. Giving our opponent the chance to respond, that day, and settle the score on the field.
It was November 24th, 1973 when All-American tackle John Hicks led the Buckeyes on to the field. And then proceeded to tear down the M Club/Go Blue sign becoming the greatest sign stealing scandal college football history. A history that seemingly comes full circle this year. I must admit, I’d love to see the Buckeyes tear down that sign once again. To let that team and staff know “We’re here, it’s time to settle this on the field, and we expect payment in full”. Yeah it’s different 50 years later … but no it ain’t … it’s exactly the damn same!

Dear Michigan, embrace being the villain. It's more fun for everyone that way
Villains make sports more fun. Especially when it's for a mostly harmless (and funny!) offense like Michigan's alleged sign stealing. So the Wolverines should embrace their new role and the rest of us should enjoy it.
Why Michigan should embrace sign-stealing villain role
If Connor Stalions did what he has been accused of, then he and Michigan will be punished. And they should be. But this also isn't a crime. It isn't even a betting scandal or rampant recruiting violations with bags of cash being passed around. No one here has been hurt or even arrested.In a weird way, it's actually a bit refreshing. A genuine on-field football controversy that has also become a deliciously stupid game of gloved finger pointing. Cheating is bad. That we can all agree on. And in the end, the truth will be revealed, and the official comeuppance, whatever form that takes, will be handed down from above. But that's going to take a while.
Between now and whenever that might be, everyone dressed in blue can't do anything but play football games and wait. So, why waste that time fighting the outside world when you could be standing on the sideline spot where Stalions is no longer allowed, from Ann Arbor all the way into the postseason, arms outstretched like the baddies you now are and bellowing, "BWAHAHAHAHA!"
