Question: Was U.S. Integrity hired because the Big Ten knew that scUM was cheating, or did U.S. Integrity's routine monitoring catch scUM cheating?

I think we may be reading too much into the involvement of U.S. Integrity. I went back through the 13-page letter to see where they were mentioned.

The NCAA notified the B1G about the cheating on Oct. 18th. The B1G then had a call with tCun (Ono, Manuel, and their legal rep) and discussed it, with Petitti saying he told them he had to make this information public. The next day the B1G talked to U.S. Integrity, who confirmed that the scam should be made public. After that was done, Vegas could decide if they’d yank tCun games from their boards. It’s possible they were only involved in the discussion about whether the scam should become public knowledge.

There doesn’t seem to be any indication to me that U.S. Integrity was involved any earlier than than that, so I don’t think they were involved in exposing the cheating,

CFP will do what espn wants, and espn will want them in because they're a rating magnet right now, not only for their games but for all the airtime that their talking heads will devote to them.

The greatest thing in all this is that the entire country is seeing what we've been saying for years. They're seeing the smug, sanctimonious "we're better than you" culture of the university. They're seeing that Harbaugh is a toxic cocktail of low IQ, ego, Asperger's and CTE. They're seeing that Ono is a self-promoting, popularity-seeking academic grifter whose greatest skill is being the athletic department's biggest fanboy. They're seeing how utterly delusional and entitled the dfbia is. They're seeing that Desmond Howard's mother didn't have any children who lived.
