#22 Ohio State @ #15 Illinois: Thursday, February 24, 9 PM, FS1

Call me a homer, but when wife and I watched the game, we had the distinct impression that the refs were getting a bit extra pay from the Illinois team. tOSU had what, three (?) players hit the deck and stay for awhile, victims of elbows, head butts, etc from the Illini brutes? Kofi is an NBA talent certainly, but he was getting away with mayhem under the basket. Refs only called the most flagrant fouls on the big guy. Thought our 'bigs' did a fantastic job on him, thought he scored 34, based upon his shot count, but box score didn't agree with me. I'm betting that the Buckeyes mostly are headed for the whirlpool today, as they were all black and blue. Thought we were goners in the first half, got higher than a kite when tOSU went up by 16 in the second half, relapsed into a coma when it closed to 1. For the record, thought the game had the most 'make-up' fouls called this season. Would expect the B10 offices would be reviewing the game tape today, to see whether the refs should continue their employment, or be relegated to a prison league job. Branham played extremely well, really loved his 'get even' flushes to answer one from the Illini. Shout out to Zed, Kyle, even Brunk (Liddell?), who 'manned up' against Kofi. No wonder their guards went almost perfect from the three line, as the Buckeyes were collapsing to the post pretty much all night. Football on the court. Great win, and great heart from the Buckeyes. Oh yeah, know we scored four on the two technicals (he should have been escorted out much much earlier), but also believe we scored two baskets on the ensuing in bounds to complete the technical. Really don't tOSU to match up with them in the B10 playoffs, as the predicted results will damage BOTH teams from a deep run in the Dance. Go Bucks!

Cryin Illini fans are all over Facebook this morning.

Big 10 officiating is what it is, every team has been dealt bull shit from it at some point. Fact is we lost this game for the same reason we lost the other 7....the opposition goes on a big ass run at some point in the game and Illinois enters at least a 5 minute or longer stretch of turnovers and not scoring, combined with occasionally poor free throw shooting. Even in some of the games they've won, this shit has been happening.

Illinois is simply a round of 32 team at best. They've yet to beat a team equal or better than them talent wise, except for Wisconsin and that's simply because Kofi is an awful match-up for them. Anything more than the 2nd round and I'll be ecstatic. Consistency just isn't there with this group.

No offense, but if you thought the Bucks were getting shafted last night then you'll think that every game. That game was physical and 42 fouls were called as a result (24 of them on Illinois). The flagrant call was correct, Underwood lost his shit a couple times - had to be restrained - and received a predictable outcome.

If last night was the result of Illinois writing a check for the officials then I suggest they ask for a refund. The refs didn't lose the game, but they didn't bail them out either.

Bucks survived an onslaught of threes, were efficient on the offensive end most of the night, and earned a big road win against a very good team.

Yup Ahrens got a pridictable cheapy after underwood blew up the first time and the Elbow to Ahrens head probably should have been a Flagrant 2. But besides that and the last 3-4 mins of the game where they seemed to decide to call nothing as Illinois hacked making every attempt to steal a steal or a foul. The rest of the game was pretty damn favorable to us. Allowing us to play physical D

So you're saying Illinois has a shot?

When we'all get to the Big Dance, the Illini will have to be aware of where the refs come from. If they're from the ACC, then Kofi might last ten minutes before fouling out.......to quote Tombstone, "banging under the boards don't go around here" - well quoted somewhat. I'm hoping (always) for an all B10 final four. But I do think the Buckeyes game will translate to the Dance better than Illinois's. Go Bucks!

If Illinois left the B1G today, would anybody notice?

Well, Illibuck wood. But that aside, it's a pretty universal complaint. I think I may have even posted something along the lines of Ohio State joining the ACC to get an easy route to the CFPs ala ND. Penn State fans long for the Big East. Nebraska fans miss the Big 8. I've yet to see a fan base that doesn't bitch about the refereeing at some point in time.
