5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

You are entitlled to your opinion, you are not entiled to your own set of facts. If you have proof, show it, if not, then STFU. No player on Arkansas' team is on a payroll.

Really? As shown below, I was referencing history...SWC specifically. You threw a jab with your "OSU=" and I returned volley. As Gator also mentioned, the SEC specifically has had a few 'pay to play/sign' moments in recent memory...Bama, Auburn, possibly Tennessee.

I never once accused a current Arkansas player of a thing...but that fact must have been lost in your translation of my post. Sorry for your dumbass mistake. No hard feelings.

Then again, no need to sell things when you are on a payroll eh?

Go back and read his post. His reference was to the SEC*, not to the Piggies, per se.

....unless he was referring to your SWC days when you probably were paying your players.

The intern usually doesn't generate hundreds of thousands for the company

We bill for services provided by our unpaid interns just like we do for our paid staff. It's legal, the interns gain valuable experience (most take jobs with us when they graduate), and we don't waste valuable staff time providing free services. Everybody wins.

According to the university and other reports, Lance Brauman and his wife helped the student with things like lodging and transportation back in the summer of 2003, before he was even enrolled in Arkansas. Apart from this, the couple was also said to have gone above and beyond ? not exactly a good thing, in this case ? what they should have done for him. This included the organization of a correspondence course, tutoring, and the apparent manipulation of proctor assignments for tests in the aforementioned course.

Not payroll but lets not act like Arkansas does everything the right way....take the beam out of your eye

1. Selling rings? BFD. They've all got at least three.
2. Selling a uni (Boom), and getting in trouble? Fuck off NCAA. It's ok for you, tOSU, and Nike to profit from it, but not the player that helped to make it valuable? Horseshit.
3. Selling your Gold Pants? I just can't imagine doing that. According to the HBO documentary on The Game, Bo never sold his. This is the biggest deal to me.

I just don't understand selling those. Kinda breaks my heart.

GPA - That seems to be almost sacrilegious to me.

I remember listening to Stanley Jackson as I was trying to get out of the parking lot after The Game this year. He was talking about the Seniors having 4 (or 5 if they were fifth year) pairs of gold pants. There was a sound of sadness and a little jealousy (in a good way) in his voice. I think he would have given almost anything to have another pair or two.

sCAM Newton's 180k handshake gets the blind eye treatment

a couple of players sell some stuff and get a free tattoo and its suspensions all around.....

gotta love the NCAA

Did I miss something? Didn't we self report? That's the difference here, no? We come clean and take our lumps. Others deny and see what they can get away with... Who'd you rather be?

Just a couple of things-

About the young men involved in this incident. I am disappointed that they made this mistake and I have a very hard time believing that they did have some idea they were crossing a line with their actions. However this is not even close to being the worst mistake that a I have known a 20-25 year old young man to make. The punishment seems to me to be appropriate to the offense. If these players decide that they need to seek their fortunes elsewhere next year, I will wish them well. If on the other hand, they seek to further redeem their mistake by returning next year, I will cheer for them as if there was no offense to redeem (after they serve their punishment of course).

About the university we all care about. I know some are concerned about the "PR Hit" some think the university will endure. This is what I will tell those that try an tell me there is something "wrong" at The Ohio State University.

In a world where the norm is to do the easy thing,
The Ohio State University chose to do the hard thing.

In a world where many have chosen to look the other way,
The Ohio State University chose look at itself and said we can do better.

In a world where many now will not only condone bending the rules, but even will condone breaking them,
The Ohio State University said we will hold ourselves accountable.

Today, I have never been prouder to call myself a Buckeye.

one has to wonder if these guys have ruined one of the greatest traditions of the football team/university. i cant imagine kids now actually receiving their gold pants as students. in fact, the reality is they probably blew it for every student athlete. i cannot see the university giving student athlete their rings during their time as s-a in the near future anytime soon. likely will from now on be held in trust until after they are no longer eligible, probably the biggest disappointment of all of this...

And where is the harm in this? Delayed gratification is something that is sorely missing amongst many people today.....and this little scene kinda illustrates that.

I am saddened by the news and saddened for the ones involved. I am saddened that either (a) they couldn't think 20...30...50 years into the future and realize how precious those "trinkets" they sold would be to them at that time in their life or (b) that they truly "needed" that money that badly for legitimate reasons.

I am saddened to see some ready to throw these 5 under the bus... or should I say throw them off the bus, off the team and out of the university. I made some dumb ass mistakes my first couple of years at OSU, one that should have had me gone for a couple of quarters and facing possible serious legal issues. I am sure that my sons will make some dumb ass stupid mistakes their first couple of years at OSU and should I find out about their dumb ass stupid mistakes, they will know how disappointed and saddened I am in them, but move on and grow from it.

I am saddened that the NCAA says no to suspending the 5 for the Sugar Bowl, but wait until the beginning of next season. The hypocrisy in that is too much for me to handle.

I am saddened that this will have a negative effect on the rest of the team and their Sugar Bowl experience. I really don't give a flying fuck about what anyone one of us may think about how we now feel about the Sugar Bowl, or attending games next season, it is about this team. I swear many here did not play high school football, or they came from a crappy program where the team concept was not emphasized.

I am saddened, greatly, for the departing seniors. Their last game in the Scarlet and Gray has become a circus for all of the wrong reasons.

And still, I am quite pleased and proud of my alma mater in quickly investigating this and immediately notifying the NCAA. It is too damn bad that this isn't mentioned many times over and compared and contrasted with the USC's of the college world.

I'm kind of on the fence about this issue. IF (and it's a very BIG IF) some of these players did sell the memoribilia they helped our program earn to help their families, then I can't really sit here in my perfect world and bash them. I am fortunate enough to come from a family that never had to struggle to pay bills or make payments or buy groceries. However, I love my family enough to the point where if I had valuable items that others wanted to pay me 1-2k for and my mom was about to get her electricity shut off - I wouldn't think twice about selling a ring/charm to keep her heat/electrcitiy/water/etc on. However, by doing so I knowingly take the risk of getting caught and in trouble and would fully admit and accept the punishment like a man - while telling the NCAA to go fuck themselves politely.

After all that, do I honestly believe some of these young men sold these items to help their families and not themselves? No. But I won't go off and verbally abuse them because I do not know the facts and individual situations these young men are in.

GPA. seriously. GPA!
