5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

I see no reason why the NCAA would allow the Sugar Bowl to count as one of the five games when they already reversed the Sugar Bowl suspensions that Ohio State imposed on the players. The NCAA would likely say, "Your guys were eligible to play. If you suspended your players for violations of team rules, then that's none of our business. Our suspension is for the first five games of the 2011 season. Case closed."

I wonder if there is precedence for this? I can't find any quickly. I would think that tressel will sit down and discuss what the players would prefer, suspension next year or suspension for the bowl and appeal for a reduction and the bowl game to count as 2 or 3 games (seeing as how the NCAA sees the bowl as a special opportunity). The NCAA loves precedence so if there is any that would answer the likely impact of suspending for the bowl game.

I don't know might be worth a shot. My guess is there are discussions going on in the background we will never hear about and having Mr Smith on our side will help our case either through influence or more likely proper perspective.

Certain things have different values to different people
I couldn't agree more. Obviously, symbols of important milestones that The University considers important these kids do not. Thank you for making my point for me. How can you actually say that it is not a slap in the face to sell these things? So, these kids are supposedly super loyal to the program right? Like family? So, if your grandma gave you something....ANYTHING that marked an important milestone in each of your shared lives, I don't care if it is the ugliest thing in the world, you think it is ok to sell it for some cheap profit? I am sorry sir but your ambivalence to this major slight is appalling and is obviously a result of your blind allegiance to a successful football program at all cost. You either have no moral compass of your own or you do and it always points in the sunny direction. I just can't believe how much of this thread is dominated by the ins and outs of the NCAA rules, etc. and how little is directed to the lack of pride these kids have shown. Is nothing sacred?

Yeah itownbuck you have no moral compass........or you don't understand how everybody should value stuff the same as coldwaterKlan.

Is nothing sacred? You say this about a football team on Christmas, interesteing.

I hope your flaming makes you feel better about yourself and your clear moral superiority.

After a few days of thinking this over, count me firmly in the group who would like to see the players suspended for the bowl game.
Fact of the matter is, i would rather lose with players who didnt break the rules than win with those who did.
Plus, i think we actually have a better shot without them in the lineup. There is no way this isn't causing dissension in the locker room. I think the team would really rally behind Bauserman (or whoever the QB starter would be, Pryor is really the only loss the team would suffer...)

Ohio State suspended the players for the Sugar Bowl ... the NCAA promptly reinstated them, giving some bull[censored] excuse about the bowl game being a special opportunity blah blah blah ... then the NCAA suspended them for five game next season. The NCAA determines to which games the suspensions apply, not Ohio State, and the NCAA has said that they players are eligible for the Sugar Bowl and ineligible for the first five games of next season. Ohio State has no reason or incentive to suspend the players for the Sugar Bowl because the NCAA (rightly or wrongly) has declared that they are eligible to play in that game.

C'mon mang...Ohio State should suspend them for the Sugar Bowl because it is the right thing to do. Period.

Just because the NCAA is a joke doesn't mean Ohio State has to be as weak as them. Ohio State should do THE RIGHT THING.

Suspend them.

They won't but they should.

Pryor is the biggest loss, but not having Herron out there is not a good thing either, him and Sanz were the most consistent playmakers when we really needed to get things going. Not having Posey out there allows teams to focus more on Sanz aswell. Losing any starter hurts the team.

True. But in terms of Pryor we just don't have another QB on the roster who would keep things competitive. We have guys in the backfield that could keep things on the same level as Boom, maybe even do some things Boom isn't capable of.

I'd still like to see Pryor suspended even if it meant a 30 point loss...

Show the country we have a backbone and some pride.

This is the most extreme example of making up moral "rules" to suit your own opinion that I've read in a good long while.

Let me say I have a great deal more faith in Jim Tressel's moral judgment than I do a bunch of random fans.

Is Tressel's moral judgment even being taken into consideration though?

And I'm not sure how I am making up moral rules...trading memorabilia and autographs for tats is embarrassing and should be punished ASAP. Not on the payment schedule of the BCS and NCAA.

Ohio State has the opportunity to take the high ground.

I am really torn on this. I want to see Ohio State do well next year, but to see these boys disrespect the history of the program like this really gets my gruff up. Part of me say that OSU should just tell all five of them to go pro because there is no place for them next year. To sell the Gold Pants and the Rose Bowl ring is just sacreligious!:osu:
