5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

Wow... what do you say. It's a sad day for sure... and on so many levels.

I guess, when I look at the two young men in my avatar I see that there is a lesson that be taught here. I hope that, through this, they'll better understand that rules are rules and like them or not, nobody is above those rules.

I'm not going to throw out any kind of reaction about these kids... selling rings or gold pants or whatnot... we all do stupid things. Consequences are in place for all of us when we do [strike]stupid [/strike] things we, looking back regret. I guess they will all see those consequences first hand.

I will, however, say that I'm not sure that I feel good about the tOSU appeal. I say, stand up and take it like men. I already hate how college football is so much about money, an appeal... IMHO just emphasises that.

It's all just a shame. A real shame.

Finally... Lest we forget... once a Buckeye...

:oh:

Instead of sitting out 5 games, how many of these players may just enter the NFL draft?

Pryor Boom Posey I can see all going pro.

Solly and Adams need another year (even a suspension shortened one to get better.)

This makes me sad concerning Adams. Having known him (and the others), I see some the the trouble Adams has had over the past few years and I think so much of it is out of his character. He really is a good kid who, in my opinion, has been running with a few of the... hmmmm how to say it without bashing... young men who aren't making the best decisions and who aren't being a solid influence.

Exactly. These aren't new rules. The school is taking a hit for them by saying their player education was insufficient but I guarantee you they covered selling stuff to outsiders.
Completely agree, Mike. University is doing their best, but this falls on the players and is extremely disappointing and embarrassing.

I'm not going to say kick them to the curb, but I wouldn't be upset to see Ohio State and/or the players themselves cut their losses at this point. 80+ other guys are doing the right thing and deserve fair chances at competing and winning. Sad for those players (Dane, Bryant Browning, Saine, Cam, Dex, Homan, etc).

That would be my prefernece but I'm not the one making this decision. the bowl game is going to be one big media circus with this hanging over the coaches and players heads. Can't think of any way they beat Arkansas with this fiasco on-going.

The sky is not falling! Arkansas, in 1978, had an All-american injured and suspended 3 of its key offensive players for the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma. Oklahoma became an 18 point favorite and was ranked #2. Arkansas beat them 31-6 despite the turmoil. Ya'll have a fine team. I expect a great game and I expect that the turmoil will be much-a-do about nothing by game time. Although you know the announcers will harp on it.

Can someone please clarify for me. What is wrong with them selling off their rings, pants, etc.? Aside from a fans perspective of I would never do that, it is their property isn't it?

Please fill me in on what I am missing here.

As for the "tats" I kind of get that.

Only the ones who submitted the paperwork on time (I'll check on the date, but it was some time earlier this month). We don't know which (if any) of the five actually did so. The ones who didn't submit the paperwork will have to return (barring some exception to the rule).

Jordan Whiting was the only one who received discounted services on tattoos.
Herron, Posey, and Thomas also received "discounted services".

The rest are being suspended for selling memorabilia such as championship rings, gold pants, jerseys, etc...
My guess is that the items were "sold" to the tattoo parlor in exchange for tattoos, and that the "discounted services" were "cheap" tattoos.

To think this is happening just a few short weeks after coach Treseel got Clarrett to speak to the team for the scUM game is just bizarre. It's amazing what a few bad decisions can do to a career. What's even worse is not learning after hearing and seeing firsthand what others such as Mo went through. I'm not trying to draw a parallel with the five players and what Clarrett did. These players are grown men and need to learn how to make the right decsion when there is so much riding on their actions!!
