5 players suspended for 5 games in 2011 regular season (Appeal has been denied)

This makes Braxton Miller the biggest recruit in a ver long time. I think he's odds on to start the season.

You cannot possibly be serious. Pryor at least got to play piecemeal in three games behind a sixth-year senior before he took over as starter. No way Braxton comes in and starts from day one. My money is on Guiton.

I just read through most of this thread and I have a couple of thoughts.

1. I would be really surprised if any of the 5 play in the Sugar Bowl. I have a hard time seeing JT playing them unless he is being told by the NCAA to play them. At this point it almost seems like the NCAA is forcing them to play in the Sugar Bowl because OSU initially suspended them for the bowl game.

2. Censored the NCAA. I remember thinking the AJ Green suspension was pretty crazy. If you cover everything up and don't self report and deny deny deny, nothing will happen to you (Auburn), if you self-report the NCAA brings the hammer down on you.

3. I feel terrible for all of the other players and seniors who follow the rules and don't do anything wrong - see Dane etc.

4. Truly poor decision making by the five young men. In the end, we all make mistakes and I truly hope these five can learn from theirs.
:osu:
again, something will happen to Auburn....and it will be more painful than this, in part because they went ahead and played him anyways.

Braxton Miller isn't an early-enrollee, right?

Other than Ryan Shazier, who are the other early-enrollees?
Braxton is...one of the times it's mentioned in his thread.

"Miller plans on graduating early and enrolling at OSU in January. That would make him available for spring practice with the Buckeyes."

This is the first I have heard of it but is pretty exciting.

Jeremy Cash, Ryan Shazier, and Jeff Heuerman (all Florida recruits) will be here in January.

I agree and that's not a bad thing. He'll have two warmup games and then an OK Miami team to play in his first 3 games. 4 out of the first 5 games are home games. They'll be fine. Is he an EE guy?

Braxton will enroll early. And he WILL start the 1st 5 games next year....

Kind of want to see what Taylor Graham can do too in the Spring Game.

At least now the kids can adjust their minds to know that they're starters, I guess if you want a silver-lining.

Can someone please clarify for me. What is wrong with them selling off their rings, pants, etc.? Aside from a fans perspective of I would never do that, it is their property isn't it?

Please fill me in on what I am missing here.

You're not missing anything. You're absolutely right. All the butthurt about how this jewelry that belongs to them is somehow sacred and holy and mustn't be monetized...seriously--get over it. Just because you (fans) obsess over these baubles doesn't mean they do. Or even that they should.

It's certainly a possibility though, especially if/when Pryor bolts early as a result of the suspensions.

Braxton has the benefit of being able to go through spring ball that TP didn't have, plus the fact that Bauserman and Guiton have barely seen the field as well.

Pryor didn't have Spring Practice.

Just to throw that out there.

@ Miami and then into Big 10 play vs. MSU and @ Nebraska. Miami isn't too much of a worry imo (run them into the ground). Hopefully whoever is starting will be comfortable by the 4th game and the home crowd can help get a win.

Gonna need that defense rolling against the Huskers.

What a wrench these players have thrown into the football program. :(

I know the hammer will come down on Auburn eventually, but I have a hard time completely trusting the NCAA to do the right thing. Moreover, the Reggie Bush thing took like four years to unfold itself, I really hope the NCAA can sort out the Cam Newton mess before 2014. Both are wrong but 180k is worse than discounted tattoos.

These infractions occurred prior to November of 2009.

I think this fact is very important to keep in mind...waaaaay before the sCam Newton stuff. Still doesn't make it a good decision and I'm not one to condone a violation. Young kids selling "their" stuff without asking the compliance department if it's OK first is the mistake.

I would sit them for the bowl game. I would think this would help with the appeal process. Say look, we know this is unacceptable. We benched these guys for the biggest game of the year. Maybe they lower the 4 remaining games in 2011 to 2 or 3. The guys may stick around for next year if they are only missing two or three games.

In my IMO, the Sugar Bowl is less of a big deal the than the Rose or Title game. This season is in the books. Lets worry about not ruining next year too. 1 BCS bowl should equal Akron and Toledo.

Of course there are people that probably don't want any of these guys back on principle. I am not one of those guys. Serve your penalty and I have no problem with guys playing for the Bucks.

When you have so many Championship Rings and Gold Pants, if there truely was a need I can see selling one. There have been numerous players that have given their gold pants away. How exactly does the NCAA explain the SWAG bags for bowl games that are not available to non-athletes nor football players whose team does not play in a bowl? These players are given free gifts because of who they are and the team they play for. For playing in the Capital One Bowl, Alabama and Michigan St. players will receive "$420 shopping spree at local Best Buy, Timely Watch Co.". Sugar Bowl gets "Sleek Audio custom earphones, gift suite, Reactor Meltdown watch, New Era cap".
