#5 The Ohio State University vs. Wisconsin, Friday, Jan 3 @ 7:00 PM, FS1

My confidence in this team is shot. College basketball is a tough sport to be a fan of a certain team. Less than a month ago we were humming along, looking like a Top 10 team in the country. A fluke rib injury and appendectomy later, we lose all chemistry and control and barely look like a Top 10 team in our conference.

I hope Kyle's body and Duane's shot get better soon. Everyone outside of the Wessons was straight garbage tonight.

They look lethargic and they aren't playing smart ball. I dunno if it is exhaustion so much as complacency. Which is totally unacceptable.

I am not even thinking about a B1G championship or top seeding in March. These guys need to get together and better, fast, or the B1G is gonna do the same thing to them that it did last season.

Would rather the team look like shit now than in March. That said, wonder what's up with them? Scouted? Played way over their heads? Exhaustion?

Yep. Good thing is they have some huge resume wins already. They're streaky, but with those notches already tallied they can take some time, settle down, and hopefully get things corrected for a run late in the season.

Nova and UK should hold up as resume wins. Hopefully UNC can keep things together well enough for that to stay Quad 1 since it was at their place, I dunno.

I am glad we did well in the OOC but there is no resting on your laurels in the B1G. We have already lost to two second-tier conference teams, one of them at home. We need Duane to get the rust knocked off ASAP and we need Kyle back soon. And we need our freshmen not to be trash... Which feels unfair and harsh to say about frosh, but that's how much our supposed quality depth has evaporated: Carton and Liddell need to be positive contributors, in whatever fashion they can figure out how to do that. Tonight they just hurt us.

I really thought Ohio State had a shot to win the Big Ten regular season and get a #1 seed. You beat Nova by 25 that's a heck of team to beat that bad. You beat North Carolina on the road by 25. You beat Kentucky. You beat Penn State by a 100. I mean geez this team was on fire then the last 2 games it just falls apart.

Can't lose at home vs anyone let an 8-5 team if you want to do magical things this year.

Really tough one to take.

They have played way over their heads...
could also be that osu has played way under their heads recently. easy to do when you're missing a key player and/or relying on a player who is still battling back. the "true" ohio state team, whatever that is, is probably somewhere between nova/unc/psu and minn/wvu/uw. get everyone healthy and perhaps we'll find out. january isn't march.

Well, that sucked. But back to be being a borderline top 25 team like I expected to begin the season. Still think the team can make a little noise in the tournament, but think a Sweet 16 run is the cap at this point. Lots of losses coming if we can't freaking beat Minnesota or Wisconsin this year.

I know that I sound like a broken record but it all comes down to bad passing which results in turnovers. Which results in points lost and then points scored for the opposition. The passing is terrible. If Coach doesn't make it a priority and non-negotiable on the court this team will continue to struggle. And quite frankly, it's embarrassing that he allows it to occur game after game.

In a pre-game interview, Holt talked about sitting guys or putting the ball in the hands of guys who will take better care of the ball or make better passes.

But something really needs to happen or improve at the teaching/skill practice level, too, because all our guards were bad last night and, I mean, we have to play some of them. And we don't have enough ballhandling or passing elsewhere on the team to compensate for mediocre guard play.

The reality is that the PG play is very much a work-in-progress and I dunno why some people are surprised by that. Carton's true frosh colors are showing, he has been awful the past two games, and the reality is that when it comes to turnovers he has been unreliable all season and he has never really shown that he can run the offense or dictate pace. Walker's A:TO in his college career has never been good--it's better here than it was at FSU, but it needs to continue to get better.

It is nice to have an experienced ballhandler and an athletic phenom added to our backcourt, but we are still missing a consummate floor general. I think both Walker and Carton will be better next season, Carton probably dramatically so, but in the meantime someone amongst the guard group is going to have to start playing a whole lot better than they have the past couple games and at least one of Walker or Carton needs to settle into the role of running the offense, or the B1G is going to eat this team's lunch.
