All-Jim Tressel Era Team

First off, what an embarrassment of riches. This team may have already bested Cooper's All-Time Team.

As much as I like Vern, I hate to say that Darrion Scott was much more intimidating. Maybe it had more to do with his supporting cast, but this year you never heard of any "Sack Clubs" or "Opposing Quarterback Clubs." The defensive line in 2002 was completely off the charts good. I think the hit on Brooks Bollinger says it all. But winning the NC Title should tip the scale. Besides Verns leaving early.

Darrion Scott stays. Gholston gets honorable mention.
Vern set the single-season Ohio State record for sacks this year.. he gets it without a doubt.

Man the d-line is tough..love Vern and Quinn but I'd have to keep the 2002 line intact. The difference between Vern and Darion is running through Chad Henne and slamming Jason Gesser. Scott wanted to hurt you..so nasty and could play inside and out. Someone mentioned intimidation, and I agree..I don't think you can have Will Smith without Scott,or vice versa, those guys were great together.

Linebackers would be Hawk,Whilem, and Carpenter. Matt was all over the place his final 2 years,JL will be here this time next year.

Defensive Backs

Gamble- 02 illness
Whitner-lights out
Doss-nuff said
Jenkins-Piscataway's finest
Nickel Back Will Allen-super clutch

Thoughts?

1. I just re-watched 2005 - 2006 games and I think you HAVE to put Ginn in there... not because he waqs the better receiver, but because of what he forced defenses to do, which in turn raised the value of others. I'm not going to suggest that we win the 2007 NC game with him, but I sure do believe the game would have been much more competitive. With Ginn a threat on reverses, the florida ends would not have been able to zero in on Troy on every play and with Ginn going deep Gonzo, Robie and Hartline would have had more room underneath.

2. Got to go with the sentiment about Claret. What a shame 'cause the kid sure was a runner.

Top Ten Buckeyes Under Tressel

Hey guys, I just read this article and it had a top ten buckeyes under Tressel, and I thought it was pretty good. For me, Troy Smith is the best simply because the Heisman, but i thought overall the list was pretty solid, it had Mangold and Beanie Wells and others.

What are some other underrated Buckeyes under Tressel? Cameron Heyward didnt make the list but I thought he might have.

Oh what the hell, why not?My top 10 of the Tressel era regardless of who actually recruited them

1) MoC
Screw all the off field stuff, for the majority of one freshman season he was the biggest single difference maker Tressel ever fielded.
2) Ted Ginn
Best playmaker but didn't touch it as much as #1
3) Craig Krenzel
No other QB I would rather have under center for a Tressel coached team and that includes.....
4) Troy Smith
Oh if he would have just finished the deal in '06 he's #1.
5) Will Smith
Most dominant defensive player of the era
6) Mike Doss
3 time All American and National Champion. What else needs to be said?
7) Mike Nugent
Best kicker in OSU history and at the exact time Tresselball called for him the most
8) A.J. Hawk
9) Santonio Holmes
10) Beanie Wells

I know I left off JL, Malcom Jenkins and others but who do you take off my top 10?

My football only Jim Tressel's players top-10

1. AJ Hawk
2. Ted Ginn Jr.
3. Maurice Clarett
4. Troy Smith
5. Nick Mangold
6. Santonio Holmes
7. Michael Jenkins
8. Chris Gamble
9. Terrelle Pryor
10. James Laurinaitis

In my personal opinion of being a fan and football watching was that Laurinaitis's problem was he immediately/concurrently followed AJ Hawk's footsteps. Just like it'd be hard for Hawk to match-up with my image of Katzenmoyer.

In terms of "being a Buckeye" this list can change. But with Clarett's violations, Smith's violations, Pryor's violations and Holmes pseudo-admitted violations they may all have to be omitted from that "Buckeye" list in favor of others. There were many great Ohio State players in the last decade.
