It's worth noting that the list was done last summer, so the 2010 season wasn't taken into consideration at all, meaning the 2009 and 2010 players are probably a little under valued because their careers weren't complete (Heyward in particular... possibly Pryor even though like Clarett, he could probably be anywhere from #1 to not even on the list depending on what you are judging on).

True. Gholston, Carpenter, Pittman, Wilhelm don't make this list without their final seasons, and Smith, Gonzalez, Ginn, Doss, Hawk are lower on it.

I'm not sure 2010 & 11 will show as much depth, but there may be a few legends who are redshirting or backups right now.

8) Malcolm Jenkins* -- The best shut-down DB in the Tressel era. All-American, Thorpe award winner
*= Member of Ohio State's all-time team

Just out of curiosity, is that your all-time team? Or did you find that somewhere? I'll agree that he was the best shut-down DB in the Tressel era, but I'd pick both Shawn Springs and Antoine Winfield over Jenkins. But that's the fun of these lists.

I tried to make a stab at my top 10, but I had over 20 people who needed to be in the top 10. I whittled it down to 12, but when I tried to take Craig Krenzel off my list, my brain bled out my ears.

I'll be OK. But I need to stop this and go find something else to do.

The other thing I notice is that besides the three centers Bently, Mangold and now maybe Brewster, there are no elite offensive linemen.

Not to rehash this but that's always been one of my gripes about Bollman and the offense, there have been solid players but no dominant, franchise type tackles (or guards for that matter). Some combination of recruiting/talent evaluation/development never clicked along the OL to the level it did at almost every other position.

I would agree with that and that was the main thing that held back an epic collection of talent in 05 (07, 08, etc are well document) as well as #10's dedication & focus.

Center has been pretty good, with Datish & Step being solid extras after the top-3. Cordle was a good player who just couldn't keep up his weight (and was routinely 30-40 lbs below what they'd prefer).

Adams was becoming one, but it did take until year 3, and he is certainly the exception to the rule (see Boone, Smith, Shugarts) as far as elite tackles.

The potential to turn around the offensive line has to be one of the biggest silver linings of a new coaching regime.

It's pure speculation, but among other things, Kyle Dodson heading to Wisconsin has to do at least a little bit with their success putting tackles into the NFL compared to us.

If OSU had Wisconsin's success at developing offensive line's (and linemen) this past decade it would have been scary.

There's a good chance that Big Hank will make lists before he's done; but if the new coach gets credit for those guys the way JT gets credit for guys that started under Coop, then the list is pretty much done.

I have no problem giving Coach Nose Guard credit for an interior defensive lineman.

I agree with your defense but I'd beg to differ quite a bit with your offenses.

-First, imo, you can't leave Krenzel out of the top 2 QB's.
-MoC was the best TB, then Beanie. Pittman was a nice player but those two were special talents.
-I think Jamar Martin was far superior to Boren at FB
-Olivea was a tackle and the best RT of the JT era by far.
-Since you only had 10 offensive guys on the first team I assume you meant to add Santonio Holmes as your second WR. :wink2:

Just my .02, that's the fun of these lists.

like all, but Brian Hartline and Gonzo are missing

Hartline has no business being even near the top 10. A case could be made for Gonzo, but I'd probably have him just outside the top 10. The two best WRs under Tressel were Jenkins and Holmes.
