Amaechi - Hardaway (Merged)

Guess who the book is being published by?!?

ESPN books....

Guess who is pushing the story on SportCenter and giving him "exclusive" (yeah because no one else will give him an interview right?) interview?? ESPN....

Methinks there is a plot afoot

And I still don't care one way or the other. This just smells to high heaven.

Exactly, every time a ex-professional athlete comes out of the closet it's because he has something to gain out of it.

It probably won't be anyone but a franchise player or all-star. A guy like Amaechi, or any schmo off the bench, it won't do anything. Similar to when Jackie Robinson broke in, it'll be a distraction, and management won't keep the guy around - they can always get 5 points and a board in 15 minutes from just about anybody, only without the locker room distraction. Now suppose it were a guy like Oden or Durant, coming out just before the draft? They'd get drafted anyway, and anybody on the team who didn't like it would probably find themselves traded, and fast. You don't mess with the franchise player. That's why it had to be a guy with talent like Jackie Robinson, not a benchwarmer, who broke the color line.

tim bug hates gay people.

link of transcript

Dan Le Batard: You know what you are saying there is flatly homophobic? It's bigotry?

Tim Hardaway: ``Well, you know I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I am homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States. So yeah, I don't like it.''

Damn, you talk about a double standard. Replace the word "gay" with "black" or "jewish" and sit back and watch the world come down on the guy who said it. How fucking ignorant of a human being can you be when you make Le Batard look good in an interview?

I'm sure he will get slammed for this. Secondly, replace the word "gay" with "white", "Christian" or something else, and nothign would happen.

Frankly, what Hardaway said is ballsier than what Amaechi said. Amaechi's getting the hero's treatment from the media. Hardaway will be slammed. This isn't 1947 with Jackie Robinson trying to break into a league where the entire public wants him to go to hell. Who's it harder to be in baseball these days: a black guy or John Rocker?

It doesn't matter if you can play.
