Amaris Williams (DL Auburn)

Very confused as to how we keep losing bidding wars
It goes like this: many teams in the south have businesses small, medium and large that are also a part of their NIL collectives. And they have no problem providing money to those NIL collectives to secure players, they don’t care if they pay for kids visits, or for their commitment and signature. And they have no problem paying family members of kids either, they will brag about it and relish in acquiring talent.

On the flip side, businesses In and around Columbus that support OSU have no interest in getting in bidding wars or over paying for players for the football team. They would rather pay for their name on an art gallery, or hospital or convention center. Our big money donors think like donors in the south, hence why OSU loses bidding wars for top talent. So the guys they do get, REALLY love OSU coaches and the program as a whole.

But OSU/ Day will not allow the collectives to offer a freshman more money than players currently on the roster. He knows that this can ruin a teams chemistry. I get that it sucks, but it’s hard to justify giving a guy like Justin Scott more than a DL that will be favored to start next year like Hamilton.

I mean, that is at the very least a sound point but how do you justify seeking inferior talent to keep average to slightly above average starters happy?

That’s one guy on a defensive line that got bullied into a loss in the 4th quarter.

I don’t know, I’m not pounding the table or anything since I still can’t seem to think about anything rationally yet. Ultimately that makes the most sense to me (looking after who’s there first and dancing with who brought you)

If team chemistry means dancing before games, and treating TCUN like it is any other game, I think I prefer paying players and do the Saban method of either play hard or get out. Now that this is a semi professional situation anyways.

This.

What exactly in the hell is the point of maintaining bad culture?

Unless of course, you are such an inexperienced leader, so far in over your head you think your culture is actually good…

Day ain’t Saban. There’s only 1 Saban, so that comparison is moot. There’s only one HC in CFB that can sit down in homes with a handful of rings. Day has to find his way to win I find it funny how scUM fans wanted Hairball out of town, and he lost to OSU more than Day has to him.

You’re comparing apples and oranges. You’re comparing what you’d say is average - above average talent in college, but that is far better than some of the best HS talent. How many HS players as big and fast as them have Scott and Seaton went against on a weekly basis in HS? I can tell you that it ain’t much. None of the top DL from 2023 have even made a dent in their teams starting lineup(I looked at Keon Keeley, Vic Burley, TJ Hicks and Jordan Hall). So you’re going to pay a kid because he’s a 5star more than the guys actually starting? That doesn’t make much sense. If you want to just turn players over every year and over pay, than you’d rather root for an SEC team, Miami or Colorado. And most of those teams don’t have good odds of winning much outside of UGA

These desperate southern schools are basically giving blank checks to these types of kids to sway them last minute. We have already made it clear we aren’t going to do that
Bama and Georgia are getting burned by the Auburns and FSUs of the world exactly like Ohio State is. Maintain the relationships and look for the transfers when those NIL promises bounce.

Yep the Auburn/A&M/Miami/FSU types flinging money around like it’s nothing to anyone who will take it is still highly annoying though but that’s the game these days. Maybe eventually recruits will realize that it won’t pay off in the end most of the time. It’s hard to fault kids taking the money but at some point actual development and winning has to start meaning something?

@MSURacerDT55 do you think Williams could wind up at DT instead of DE? From my untrained eye, he looks like a bit of a tweener that could either maintain his weigh by shedding bad weight and adding good weight to stay at DE, or just start the build towards a DT body. I will take him wherever he lands, but I was thinking about that with the Scott decommit.
I think he is all outside, is raw and twitchy. I could see the move inside but he would fill a major need outside. As of right now he would probably have the most burst out of the guys we have in the room out of their stances.

I would even go as far to say he would be an eventual pro with his raw skill set, get him with LJ to train his eyes and the sky’s the limit for this guy. He reminds me of a cross between a Brandon Dorlus and Noah Spence.

He could be a really twitchy guy as an exclusive IDL but for our needs I think he would give us an element we haven’t had on the outside in a while.

I cam definitely see Bama taking the gloves off and throwing a massive bag at a.kid they deem good enough. They did it with Keeley and Downs last year.
And UGa backed up the Brinks truck for Wilson. Both or 1 would've been a Buckeye without NIL
