Longtime Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez may not have much time to enjoy his retirement. The former Badgers head football coach is expected to take a job with the Big Ten's league office acting as a liaison between conference decision-makers and coaches, Sports Business Journal reports.

Just sayin': WTF, is that job? Warren decides on something and he passes the buck to Alvarez to tell the coaches how the B1G as screwed them over yet again....:lol:

Outsider opinion, it's one of three things:

1). The league (correctly) figures that Warren is simply better at the Business/Marketing and will use him to grow the B1G network...etc
Alvarez will handle football operations/rules/penalties and will be the football facing voice as playoff expansion draws near. It's not a horrible decision because he has a reputation and legacy to maintain and is respected nationally and has served on the CFP selection committee.
More concerning is who comes after him.

2). It's a parting/thank you gift from the league. He does it for two years, collects some money and then retires again. He's the football advocate in the fall and that's it.

3). Barry is in place to make sure the B1G has a significant say in terms of playoff expansion. He can effectively advocate for the league and work with the coaches to ensure maximum representation in whatever the new playoff looks like.

Maybe Barry has the balls to suggest that you can play Big Ten football after dark in November, that national championship playoffs should be played on a national - not regional - stage, that Notre Dame needs to shit or get off the pot, that bowl committees kiss his ass.

4) The league (correctly) figures that Kevin Warren is an empty suit and further figures this is easier than firing him.

Eh....I don't know about that one. With that rule we can't play at Wisconsin or Penn St at night when it's 11 degrees out. Preventing those schools from having a night game atmosphere advantage warms my heart.
