Baseball Test(FORMAT FIXED)

I think #33 can be looked at two ways. If it is a sure double then it becomes a double cut situation where the short stop and second basemen head out for the cut and the first basemen trails the hitter into second for a possible throw behind.
if its just a single then its a read play by the outfielder on trying to throw the guy out at third or weather to keep the hitter off second if the team is well coached then the short stop would be in position to cut the ball off or atleast decoy the cut to freeze the hitter rounding first

16) You are the runner on first. There is a line drive hit. You should:
I don't teach FREEZE .. but maybe I should...

Invariably, my kids are toast... I teach VERY aggressive baserunning... I like to apply intense pressure.. I teach very aggressive leads...and to take off at the crack of the bat... so when the ball is hit, my kids are at least 4-6 steps off.. if he freezes he's toast... and the kid is in never-never land

I guess I 'teach' "get back".. and confess I don't have a hard fast for this one... if it goes thru, he still has a good chance of getting to the next base... if he freezes and it's caught... he's doubled... the base coach makes the decision...

I'd say I'm running at 90% (pretty sure it's actually 100%) that a line drive happens when I've just signalled a hit and run or a steal... so the majority of time, I can't say a word... my call left the kid toast...

Convince me on the FREEZE... am very open to it... for the 10% of the time, I didn't leave the kid on an island...

nj...a baserunner should take his lead, then secondary lead and have his weight on his front foot as the ball enters the hitting zone.....if it is a line drive the player should just stay in that position until he determines if the ball is caught or through the infield...

also its good to be agressive in baserunning....my philosphy as well....but never make the first or third out a third base....with one out you have to try to get to third and with two out you have to get to second....

Agreed with the aggressive running...we teach that as well but also controlled aggression.

Freezing on a linedrive is a difficult task...but if it holds the kid up for a few tenths of a second, it will increase the chance of getting back while more than likely not costing an extra base. A linedrive is probably more often than not a "Seed/frozen rope/pill, etc etc" ...it will reach the OFers too quickly to likely take third anyway. If the "seed" is in the gap those few tenths are not going to cost you anyway...

Just my thoughts...

a friend of mine in town is Tom Verducci, lead baseball writer for SI... he just went thru a pretty neat experience working out with Toronto... I asked him to see what they teach about line drives and base running...

He asked the coaches... and was told, "do not freeze.. get back... freezing may not permit time to avoid being doubled up..."
