BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

I tried to read that thread, but I could only make it a few posts. There is no way to reason with the Duck fans, just like they couldn't reason with us if they came over here. Noted several of their arguments seem way off base, but what do you expect? At least the polls see it our way.

I just don't get their one and only argument; "We have one loss and you have two, therefore we are better." The most logical comparision that I can make to this rationale is comparing the 3.5 GPA of a student who takes AP English, Calculus, and Physics during a semester with the 3.65 GPA of a student who takes basic english, Algebra I and basic science and saying that the student with the higher GPA is more intelligent. If you were a college, which one would you be more likely to admit? If you were a bowl selecting a football team, which would you choose? However using the logic of the Ducks, a "B" is a "B" and it doesn't matter what gave you the lower mark.

Can someone answer me this simple question. Does the Fiesta Bowl share in the TV revenues???

IMO, this is the most important question. Oregon can guarantee butts in the seats, but they cannot deliver the TV audience.

1. Broadcasting: ABC has to pay for the rights to broadcast, the bigger the anticipated audience the more ABC shells out to the bowl committee.

2. Naming rights: Fedex similar in manner to that of ABC has to pay for naming rights of the game, having its logo plastered all over the stadium, and fiesta bowl logo.

3. Stadium Advertising: Reliant on not only the amount in the seats, but partially on any TV exposure it gets.

It isn't just about filling the stadium for the game it's about how many people will come to AZ for the game. Say the stadium holds 80,000 people. ND vs OU. ND brings 100,000 and has 60,000 people in the stadium. OU brings 30,000 people 20,000 of which are in the stadium. For a big game like we would have against ND say 80,000 OSU fans would go to AZ and 40,000 go to the game. That leaves 60,000 ND fans and 40,000 OSU fans in AZ w/o a ticket. They have to stay someplace and watch the game someplace. That is a lot of money for the Tempe area. Noted all of these numbers are estimates, but there is no way that Oregon would send as many people to AZ as OSU. I would bet that there would be more people in Tempe for a ND/OSU game than for the NC game a few years ago. Not to mention the fact that OSU is a better team than Oregon. Too bad the AD's can't schedule an extra game against OSU and OU with the winner getting the BCS bid. I know it should be ND vs. Oregon for the bid, but I would rather see OSU kick both teams asses just to remove all doubt who the better team is.

:slappy: Some absolutely absurd statements made by Oregon fans on that site:

We have an average defense.
That the only thing which should be looked at is that they have one loss and we have two (i.e., that SOS is irrelevant).
That tOSU and Oregon have "similar quality wins." Someone remind again just who is good that they've beaten (keeping in mind what Nevada did to Fresno St. this past weekend).
That tOSU is not a national team.

What a joke. I'm not sure why anyone would waste their time over there, though. It's clear that they think they should be in the Fiesta Bowl over us simply b/c they lost one game and we lost two, notwithstanding the competition both teams have faced and the quality of our wins vs. theirs. Those guys are a waste of time. Just let them continue to wallow in their irrelevancy.
