BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

It's amazing. The ND koolaid has even made its way to some on our very own board, I tell you what. ND is not only NOT a top 5 team, I dont think they are a top 15 team. ND is the equivilent (same record too) of Texas Tech. Texas Tech is the same style, big air offense, no defense, lost to one of the undefeateds and a second lesser team. But Texas Tech is ranked 18th, while ND is 7th? I call bullshit. I can't wait to watch us DISMANTLE that team. Fuck the domers!

ND is a lot better than Texas Tech and is barely a top 10 team but I agree they're definitely not a top 5 team.

I believe that there is a strong possibility that Georgia and Florida State will win this week. Call me crazy, but I think the probability is nearly 50/50. If they do, then we really have something to celebrate.

I just checked out some stats and Notre Dame is 65th in total defense, Oregon is 49th, and Ohio St. is 4th. I'm lickin' my chops just thinking about Troy Smith and Antonio Pittman tearing up that weak defense and shutting down Brady Quinn.
They gave up 347 passing yards to Stanford (51st in pass offense)
514 total yards to Purdue (25th in total offense offense)
143 rushing yards to Syracuse (104th in rush offense)
and 408 passing yards to Washington (54th in pass offense)

They were able to hold Navy to 47 yards below their average in rushing yards, USC to 12 yards below their average in passing yards (2 INTs), Michigan to 50 yards below their average in rushing yards, and BYU to 71 yards below their average in total yards. Those are pretty much the only semi-impressive performances that Domer defense was able to muster up this year. Let me know if I'm missing any, but that's pretty pathetic.

I absolutely HAVE to agree with Soldier here....where the hell is all this "ND is a great team" bullshit coming from? Get a clue, people, and quit swallowing everything the biased media has to say. Yes, CW has turned around the program. Yeah, they are a shitload better than I thought they were. To be honest, I thought their pre-season ranking was accurate (55th). So, I underrated them. In all fairness, they likely deserve to be ranked. Yup, somewhere right around 20-25 would be accurate. But top five? I scoff. Top ten? I laugh. Top fifteen? I puke. Who have they played? A four loss scUM team? Navy? Baylor? Syracuse? Michigan State? Oh, wait, they lost to scUM state. Hmmm. Granted, they played USC tough. So did Fresno State...who lost to Nevada. Cripes, I frickin' hate the hype that is Notre Lame. They should be lucky to be ranked, yet they're in the top ten? I puke.

By the way, both the AP and USA Today polls are out, and we are 6th in both, with Notre Lame 7th in both....although (and someone really needs to explain how the eff this happened after being a two-point conversion from overtime) LSU has jumped Penn State as the number three team, with PSU now being fourth.

Edit - I'm retarded, PSU was fourth last week as well, I was thinking of the BCS poll. Still, PSU should have jumped LSU after that ridiculous showing. Shouldn't matter, though, as LSU is gonna lose the SEC championship game.

they are 65th now that they have played the awesomeness that is BYU, Tenn, Navy, Syracuse, and Stanford. I wonder what their defensive ranking was before finishing the year with those pathetic teams.

If ND gets the Fiesta bid does it matter who they play to the BCS? Seriously, ND in a BCS game for the first time in awhile, after their feel good season, would sell out with just ND fans. Their fan base is enormous. They have their own freaking TV contract(NBC). Hell, they would be in the Big 10 if they didn't make so much money on their own with TV rights. For this reason, I think we're going to get screwed.

Don't get me wrong, I think we deserve the bid over Oregon. But if you put ND into BCS bowl its a guaranteed sell out no matter who they play. The TV ratings would be damn good as well. Granted that ND vs. tOSU would probably have better ratings. But all these arguments about how much better we travel than Oregon are probably moot, because ND would sell it out by themselves.

I predict we get screwed and play Auburn, the toughest of all potential opponents (VT and ND).

Can someone answer me this simple question. Does the Fiesta Bowl share in the TV revenues???

IMO, this is the most important question. Oregon can guarantee butts in the seats, but they cannot deliver the TV audience.

At least now, since we are ranked AHEAD of ND in both polls, the computers, and the BCS, the real question/talking point becomes "does ND deserve a BCS bid over Oregon" and not over tOSU.
I'm not holding my breath until I hear the media take this angle, though.
