Well I sure hope that LSU makes it in the championship game against you guys.

GT - Just curious as to what your thoughts are on why you and other LSU fans might think that 2-loss LSU deserves to be in the national championship game over 1-loss Kansas? Especially since LSU lost to two teams that I believe are currently not in the top-25, and Kansas lost the one game to Missouri, who will likely remain in the top-10.

Dan Wetzel's Speculation

A segment from Dan Wetzel's most recent column on Yahoo sports.

"The contenders for the BCS title game are as follows and we'll do our best to break it down with clear efficiency heading into Sunday's 8 p.m. announcement - Ohio State, LSU, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Kansas, Hawaii and Southern California.

Don't blame us for the analysis, we're as impartial as you'll ever find.

Ohio State (11-1) entered the weekend at No. 3 and looks like it's in, essentially because it only lost once. Sure it only played 12 games (to most team's 13), took on a weak non-conference slate, beat no really good teams, lost three weeks ago at home to Illinois and didn't play anyone in two weeks, but in this season ? hey, step on up you're a winner, please try to play better than last year."

Here's the response I sent him:

"When you cite Ohio State's weak schedule and conference, I say good point. When you cite that they haven't played in two weeks, I say what does this have to do with the price of tea in China? When you say "most" teams have played 13 games, I say you're dead wrong.

The fact that Ohio State ended their season two weeks earlier than some teams is irrelevant. They still played 12 games. You could just as easily credit them for not having bye weeks when other teams did.

Of the 8 teams you discuss as contenders for the national title game, only 3 (LSU, Oklahoma and Va Tech) played 13 games. That's less than half, last time I checked.

I enjoy your columns, and I forwarded your playoff articles to all my friends/acquaintances because I felt you put forth a very good plan in a very well-ordered, well-explained way. I'd love to see it happen.

But I ask that when you bash Ohio State (or any other team), please stick to relevant and accurate arguments. Otherwise, you just seem like a biased Buckeye hatemonger. There are enough of those to go around already."

Same as last year. SEC Championship Game bump.

I was asking why should it be Georgia. I think LSU should go to the NC game since they beat the two teams Georgia lost to and won the conference. I don't understand why he thinks they deserve to go ahead of LSU unless he places heavy emphasis on playing well late.

I'd just like to point out, this was a "rebuilding" year for Ohio State on the heels of losing Troy, Teddy, Pittman and Gonzo. Think about that for a second. Enjoy.

Excellent....Excellent point...In fact the most important thing is that they made it back to the NC for a shot at redemption...other things to think about...this is their 3rd time to the game in 6 years, AND we usually play much much better as the dog:biggrin:...and I see no reason not to be there again next year....ITS A GREAT DAY TO BE A BUCKEYE@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent point. LSU is a good team, but they really benefited from some generous calls from the refs in the Auburn game and the replay ref in the Alabama game who called back two key plays from Alabama. ("Indisputable" must mean something else when LSU is on the field - like "Maybe")

I don't think LSU deserves to be there, but I think they're overhyped anyway, which will be good for OSU after last year. Also, I think OSU played their best games when they were "Away". Therefore, LSU, Kansas, Georgia...doesn't matter. OSU will be looking for redemption and a victim...whatever color their jerseys are.

Yeah, but Georgia beat a team that beat LSU as well. Law of transitivity means absolutely nothing in CFB.

I am a firm believer that you award the whole season, not a few games. If you look at the whole season, LSU had a better season, IMO. Though if Georgia played LSU right now, I think Georgia would win.

Hawaii came back from a huge deflicit to Washington to win it. Colt Brennan went 42 for 50 for 400+ yards and 5 TDs with no interceptions.

Even Ohio State and LSU would have a tough time stopping that offense.

Hey now. LSU had a tough time stopping quite a few offenses

You're misunderstanding me. I wasn't using the law of transitivity. I was breaking down what they've done on the field because that's the only fair way to do things. Who would've predicted Pitt would beat WVU? Perception isn't reality and a lot of people forget that when trying to figure out who deserves to go. FWIW, I think UGA would beat LSU too. But, the fact of the matter is LSU won the conference UGA plays in, they beat both of the teams UGA lost to including UT in the SEC CG who creamed UGA by 21 earlier in the season, and they have a signature OOC win that UGA can't match.

SEC Arrogance

I said from the time we became #1 in the BCS that with the national disgust (jealousy) of The Ohio State University that the only way that The Bucks will get the RESPECT NATIONALLY that they deserve is to play and beat LSU on their home field (pretty much anyway). ............we have the best coach in America. Tress learned from his mistakes last year and will not let THIS team get all full of itself.

Hang on Folks, it's gonna be a hell of a ride and most of all .........

BE HUMBLE!!!

I have never posted on this forum, mostly because I can't type fast during a game.

However, I am so SICK of the "Ohio State" is unworthy crap.

I am also very tired of the SEC arrogance. I actually saw an article on MSNBC by John Tamanaha this morning saying "The champion of the SEC, the toughest conference in the country, should always receive prime consideration for the title game."

I also saw Les Miles said his team is arguably the best team in the country. There isn't any humility there.

The SEC-Big 10 thing is looking like the classic South hating the North thing. No amount of reason will ever work with those people. Even if we were to beat LSU, they would rationalize it with something like "Les Miles is really a big 10 guy....if we played a team with a REAL SEC coach we would have been beaten".

That being said, I want to see us play LSU and win. It's the closest we will ever get to putting the SEC-Big 10 and OSU is weak crap to rest.

This will be the game thread for the BCS Championship Game in New Orleans on January 7th.

Please do NOT call this game the Sugar Bowl. That's a different game that will be played in New Orleans several days earlier.

After the BCS Bowls are determined tomorrow afternoon, I'll revise the 'TBA' in the thread's title. That's "title" as in "TITLE GAME", bitches!

I just bought my ticket for the title game. :oh:

edit - DBB beat me by 1 minute!

Re: TBA

You are perhaps familiar with the new wrinkle in M&M's marketing: custom-printed candy.

ESPN is reporting that a solution has been found for the BCS quandary. During Saturday night's broadcast of College Football Final,
Mark May announced that the BCS Conference Commissioners have placed a rush order for gift bags printed with the name of every bowl-eligible team.

At noon today, a dozen hamsters will be released into a cage containing the candy-coated treats. Whichever teams are named on the last two uneaten M&M's will advance to New Orleans to play for the National Championship.

Seems only fair...:(
