Best Live Performances/Concerts (merged)

Forgot to add Dream Theater in Detroit 1994.

3 hours of music and I got John Petricci's pick and got to meet the band/photograph.

Simply amazing.

I was getting worried for a minute...

King's X opening up for Joe Satriani and Dream Theater in '02 at the Rosemont arena. Hideous venue... brilliant concert. Met the bands and Joe Satriani.

Symphony X and Devin Townsend Band at the Metro in '03. It's just the best show I've ever seen at my favorite venue.

Easily the best show ever? Fate's Warning opening for Queensryche and Dream Theater at the Aragon Ballroom. QR and DT playing each other's songs, covering Floyd together, it was brilliant.

3/15 and 3/16 '02 were also amazing DT shows. The second night, they did one of the best covers of one of the great metal albums of all time, Master of Puppets.

The best shows I've seen...

KISS at Mellon Arena-December '09: yes it wasn't the original lineup but these guys are truly are the Hottest Band in the World
Journey w/ Def Leppard- Sept. '06: What a great way to celebrate the Bucks beating Texas then hanging out with Journey the next night? They totally killed it
Poison/Motley Crue Aug. 2011- Poison outperformed Motley on so many levels that night as an opening act, though I love both bands pretty much equally. most people aren't into that 80s hair metal type of music, but I love it, listen to it everyday, just puts you in a good mood. Poison has always killed it every time I've seen them

Best Live Performances/Concerts...

when the guitar player's hair caught on fire.

KISS cover band member catches fire during live show, doesn't stop playing

The members of a KISS tribute band took the mission to be the hottest band on the planet to new heights over the weekend when one of its members caught fire during a live performance.

Hairball guitarist Bobby Jenson was captured on video performing in full Paul Stanley makeup and attire at a recent show in Sioux City, Iowa. As he began playing “Detroit Rock City,” a spark from the band’s pyrotechnics hit him in the back of the head, igniting his long hair almost immediately.

In the video, a band member can be seen quickly trying to douse the flames before calmly calling on stagehands to do something. Two men quickly run out and manage to extinguish the blaze. Remarkably, Jenson didn’t stop singing or miss a single chord during the whole ordeal. When the fire was finally out, he simply continued with the show as if nothing had happened.

Gotta give the guy credit. He pulled off a Kiss/Michael Jackson tribute at the same time.

I've caught Ryan Adams last two times he's been at Red Rocks. Summers of '17 and '18. Killer rock shows, if you're into that kinda thing. Became a fan at that '17 show.

edit: annnnd, he's a f'n sleazy creep, evidently. Damnit.

Went to Indy about 6 years ago and saw Bone Thugs N Harmony at some tiny joint called Club Vogue or something like that. Maybe @OHSportsFan can confirm the venue. Anyway, best live show I’ve ever seen. None of them were in jail and no matter where you were, you were right at the stage. It was a little foggy in there, though.

DMB does put on an awesome show, as well, as @Nigel Tufnel said above. Saw them back in 2003 when I was still in school at Polaris Amphitheater, I believe.

The Vogue is a nice little theater/club- seen plenty of shows there. I remember BTNH coming there and thought about going, pretty sure they've been back since a couple times. That place usually has the BTNH/Juvenile/DMX level of shows, along with a ton of Indie Alternative types. A band I'm good friends with, The Main Squeeze (funk/rock), plays there a couple times a year and the show is amazing. Agree on the fog, though I'm guessing some of it may have been some herbal smoke?

Seen DMB a dozen times. Always enjoyed those.

I’m a big jam band guy.

And I’m just blown away by Umphreys McGee every time. My father in law, a life long guitarist is now a major fan and he’s always telling me how they are just very high level musicians.

I just know that they rock my face off.
