Purdue G Jackson out indefinitely -- chicagotribune.com

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue point guard Lewis Jackson will be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery Tuesday to repair a foot injury he suffered in practice last week.

Jackson started 30 games as a freshman last season and averaged a team-best 3.3 assists. He was expected to return from two suspensions in time for the No. 7 Boilermakers to play South Dakota State Friday at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands.
Northwestern Wildcats' Kevin Coble confirms he'll have season-ending surgery - ESPN Chicago

Northwestern University senior forward Kevin Coble, after consulting with a second foot specialist on Monday, confirmed that he'll undergo season-ending surgery on his left foot.

"After meetings with foot specialists, it has become obvious that surgery will be required to repair a mild Lisfranc fracture," Coble said in a statement released by the university. "My plans are to be with the team throughout the season and I wish them success this year.

Two suspensions for Jackson? What for?

Jackson missed the season-opening win against Cal State-Northridge for playing in an unspecified NCAA-sanctioned event without approval. He missed the preseason after he pleaded guilty in April to charges of illegal alcohol consumption and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Purdue gets a big win at home over Tennessee, 73-72.

Iowa in a tight tussle at home with #3 Texas, 38-38 at the half. Would be a huge win for Lickliter after the struggles last year.

It was a neutral court game down at the Paradise Jam tournament. Always nice to win one of the preseason tourneys though, especially against a tough team like Tennessee. Good win for the B10 as well, and if Iowa wins or hangs til the end with Texas I think it will really say something about the overall strength of the conference this year.

I apologize. I didn't see any of the game, just the score - they were listed as home.

Even bigger win then.

The Big Ten looks stout this year.

Watched the game. Moore, JJ, and Hummel are real good. Kramer is such a solid player, too. Boilers are tough. My sister is excited for the team. They look Top 5.

Also, Barlow (local kid) played with some poise.

Very good win.

Iowa is not a team the B10 can hang their collective hat on/expect quality wins from. Just hope the Hawks don't embarrass the league any more than they already have. If they win their ACC-B10 challenge game (I believe they host VT) and don't lose against the UTSAs and Duquesne's (which they've already lost to) anymore, that will be a great nonconference performance from them.

Purdue won the Paradise Jam tourney (as noted above) - we'll see how many more of these early tourneys that the Big 10 can win. They still have good chances at winning the Disney/Old Spice tourney (UM), the Legends classic (MSU) and the one Illinois plays OK St in later this week. Also competing this week are Minny in the 76 Classic (probably a less than 50% chance of winning it), UW in Maui (again, less than 50% chance of winning) and NU in the Chicago Invitational (virtually no chance of winning). OSU, PSU and IU obviously didn't win theirs and Iowa won't be able to come back vs. TX.

So far, the Big Ten's top 6-7 teams are holding their own and getting some good wins - here is the list: MSU vs. Gonzaga, PU vs. Tennessee, OSU vs. Cal, MN vs. Butler, UM vs. Creighton, UW vs. Arizona & Maryland. Only Illinois of that expected top group hasn't played anybody yet. It would be nice if those 8-10 teams (IU, PSU & NU) can get some decent nonconference wins and not lose too many, but they're headed for the NIT at best anyway, so no biggie if they lose to someone they supposedly shouldn't lose to.
