Big 10 Basketball 2009-2010

With our recent episode with Turner's back do you have any idea what length of time they might be talking about? I know that we certainly will not miss him next weekend.

There's no timetable right now, but a couple days ago, long before the news surfaced about his impending surgery and absence, there was a rumor he'd be sidelined for the season. However, I don't understand the impetus for getting the surgery if that was the case. I mean he seemed to be handling the pain fine during the game, if he re-injures it he'd still likely return before next season, and I doubt there's any legitimate risk of permanent damage. Why not just wait until after the season? So I gotta think he would be able to return for at least the NCAA tournament, at a higher fitness level than before, otherwise what's the point. He was quoted as saying, "I look forward to rejoining the team" (although that could mean next season). So my guess at this point is he'll be back to represent the Badgers and Big Ten in the dance.

Purdue beat themselves! :p

Actually, there may be some truth to that--Purdue shot only 54.2% (13 for 24) from the free throw stripe in a very tight game. Not to mention Hummel going 3 for 13 from the field.

If they shoot their season average from the free throw line, Purdue makes 18 free throws instead of 13, and Wisconsin still wins by 2.

What does a player shooting 3 for 13 without any excuse, against defense, have to do with beating yourself. It's just like you to hypocritically ignore a player from Wisconsin shooting even less efficiently, while part of it had nothing to do with the opponent, but rather an injury.

If you're going to keep baiting me with these ever-present biased takes against Wisconsin, I'm going to respond. LMAO @ you telling me to grow up.

Pot. Stirred.

[sarcasm font on] maybe it's just a bruise or a sprain [sarcasm font off] I don't know maybe they are great to put a pin in it which would help promote the healing process. It's really hard to tell when they just say surgery. Hope he heals correctly and get back to the team this season since we won't see him again unless we should meet up in the Big Ten tournament.

The Big Ten is doing what it usually does in January - that is, it's beating the shit out of itself in conference play.

No one is going to want to face a Big Ten team in the 1st round of the tournament in March though, that I guarantee.

That School up North leads #15 Connecticut 32-23 at home.

I...just...don't get them. Not impressed by them, but yet they're leading a tough team and seem to pull this types of games off (then proceed to lose to a scrub).

They don't do anything particularly well (shooting under 40% from the field, half of their shots have been 3's). They are getting turnovers and UCONN is shooting poorly, so we'll see if that keeps up the 2nd half.

We did make the tournament last year, let's see if they can finally put together a complete game.

Harris and Sims are certainly talented. I guess it's like you said, they don't play a complete game and it leads to losses to Indiana (this year and last year), it's those types of games that leave me perplexed, because they turn around and play UCONN tough at their place last year and looking good so far this year too.

There's a perfectly logical explanation to UM beating UConn - the Huskies just aren't that good! UConn has lost 6 games now, including one to Cincinnati. Obviously, W's against Jim Calhoun's club aren't as few and far between as they were last season. UM still won't make the NCAA tourney - they're only 10-7 now and they'll lose too many games on the road in conference play, and clearly they aren't good enough to win the Big Ten tourney. Sometimes UM plays tougher than others, but even at their best they're a bubble team. They weren't all that good last year but had the right wins in nonconference play (Duke & UCLA) that got them in as a 10 seed.

scUM is not a good basketball team. No depth. Terribly undersized and for a team that relies so heavily on it's shooting ability, um, they can't shoot.

Looking at their recruiting, it doesn't look to be getting much better. Beilein is essentially DickRod lite. Gimmicky offense, little substance. They'll never be a player on the national stage with Beilein there.
