"Because they wouldn't let me go for three"
I know that Tressel doesn't like to schedule a bye, instead we play teams like Youngstown state. So does this mean that we can have a 13 game regular season? or does this just mean that we have to take a bye and have a game after Thanksgiving therefore eliminating the 50+ days of being inactive untill Bowl week?

Seriously, do you think Tressel will ever allow playing a regular season game after The Game?

If I recall next year due to when Thanksgiving falls that it gives a natural 13 weeks to the season allowing for a bye. And in prior seasons Tressel likes having his bye when classes start so the players can get acclimated to school.

scUM showed us this year that it does no good to schedule an Appy State. no good at all.

And we did not gain much from our preseason scrimmage with the Penguins.

I would like to see 13 games, and keep setting up quality home-and-homes. Maybe into the AAC or Big East??

I know we have USC and Tenn coming up, but we need another quality "rival", kinda like Penn State was before they joined the conference (back in the 80's) or like scUM has with ND.

These quality games help keep the quality recruits coming, too.

The season ends on the third Saturday of November.

Posted before, but bears repeating...
The game has been on the 4th or 5th Saturday of November in:
  • 1918* (5th Saturday)
  • 1935
  • 1939-1941
  • 1944-1947
  • 1950-1952
  • 1956-1958
  • 1961-1963* (5th Saturday in '63)
  • 1967-1969
  • 1972-1975
  • 1978
  • 1980
  • 1985-1986
  • 1989-1991
  • 1995-1997
  • 2001-2003
The idea of it being always on the 3rd Saturday is a myth. The "3rd Saturday" actually applies to the month of October and to a much less significant rivalry.

Very true. I remember more than one game on Thanksgiving weekend.

hey, i'm all about tradition, but that SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO CHANGE. the Pac Ten plays 12 games in 14 weeks. the other conferences play 12 games in 13 weeks, or 13 games in 14 weeks for those who make the CCGs. it is a detriment to the Big Ten to finish that much earlier than the rest of the nation.
