That's the beauty of having sat service, there is real competition between Directv and Dish. Cable companies get treated like a monopoly and have little competition and the customers are the ones that suffer.

That's something we both agree upon. I'm just envious of all the DirecTV HD goodness for now.

The two most important words for the satellite TV consumer:

"Customer Retention"

Directv has stepped up again, the games on the overflow channels will be in HD this weekend. I don't know if that is the wave of the future, but at least it is for this weekend. Can't wait for all those OSU bb games, ex game(Ashland) is right around the corner on the BTN Big Ten Network

Awesome. HD is a thing of beauty although DTVs "HD" is rezzed too much.

Hope that becomes a standard feature. With the capacity D* has there's no real reason why they cannot do this on a regular basis.

BTW, there was an interesting story about how NFL Network was moved to premium tier by Comcast - apparently a subject of some debate at NFL meeting recently as their previous multi-million subscriber reach has dwindled to an estimated 775K.

BTN needs those deals to maintain position in the basic tier - but Comcast and others are not budging (yet).

What do you mean, too clear?
No, DTVs HD has been consistently worse than competitors for a while. Having had both major sat services very recently along with cable, I am well aware of DTVs strengths and weaknesses. It's biggest weakness is their downrezzing of content. But let's take that convo elsewhere as I'm thrilled that they are carrying BTN overflow games in HD and this thread is obviously about BTN, not DTV.

Man that WAS an interesting blog/article there. It leaves you with the same "meh" feeling you get over all these squables in the first place. Thanks for the link...

I haven't seen Dish HD content, but when I got my Time Warner HD DVR last month so I could watch the local ABC station in HD, I purposely compared their HD quality to DirecTV's and saw no noticeable difference.

TW recently purchased a full page add in BSB to list the football games and basketball games they would be televising. I can't imagine missing your target audience so badly. OSU fans, particularly fans who would pay $60 per year for a newspaper focused exclusively on OSU sports, don't want to see some of the games. They want to see ALL of the games and ultimately wont settle for anything else.

I still haven't switched because as a season ticket holder for both sports I haven't missed a game yet and because I wont settle for non-HD. But it is only a matter of time.

Not that you would want to watch this over game 2 of the World Series, BC vs Virginia Tech, MLS playoffs (DC vs Chicago), the Jim Tressell Show, Blue Jackets vs Blues, and/or Ugly Betty ; but the BNT does have the 2001 Ohio State at Penn State game on tonight from 7 - 9 PM. Ohio State loses 29-27.

Funny but that is the exact same score they lost by last night.
