THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The Big Ten Network will show at least 11 and as many as 15 of the Ohio State men's basketball team's regular-season games, according to the schedule the conference released yesterday. The games could be televised on as many as five different networks. Games also will be on ESPN, ESPN2, CBS and ESPNU, which is available only in digital-service packages from local cable providers.

not so bad after all?

I just got my direct tv hooked up on Monday - I just moved so I didnt have to cancel anything or make any drastic moves. I watched about 4 hours of the BTN yesterday. Seriously. They showed replay shows for the Buckeyes, TSUN, PSU and Wisky and they replayed some older whole games. Not too bad so far...

...now I just need to check the guide for women's volleyball.

Zurp TWC will tell you whatever they can to get you or to keep you. Case in point:

I switched to Dtv in time for the Akron game this weekend (i couldnt be more happy btw) which ment that i had to take my two boxes back to TWC on monday and have cable service shut off. Ok so i go in and they imediatly start the questions and rebutals....sorry but i run my life and can do as i please, i kept my cable internet and phone tho. One of the questions was "Why are you leaving?" so i reply i want the BTN/NFLN and they come right back with "We carry the big 10 and NFL games" and i stop her right there. I said im not questioning the fact of you carrying b10 GAMES i said BTN which you dont have, nor do you have the nfln. She tries to carry on about blah blah and i politely say maam im not here to debate or anything i made my choice and im just here to cut the cable tv out and return the boxes.

Before that while i was having Dtv installed TWC rolled up and started getting nosey. He asked why, and i said well 3 reasons you have no BTN, you have no NFLN, and your 30 dollars more for the same thing im getting thru directv. This guy had the nerve to try to lie to me and say that they had all of the channels i had mentioned and that i was making a mistake. Since he was so rude i told him the only mistake i made was waiting and having hope in a cable company to get the channels i want in a reasonable time frame. So what they want on a basic tier....they have no logical argument to why they dont have it. I just dont by the costing everyone money and only paying for it if you want it cause i could name 50+ channels i had that i paid for but never watched.

BTW the only games scheduled for national are the ones with ABC and ESPN on them...the other 4 with no channel for them COULD end up on the BTN. Im sorry but i could not stand to miss 4 (that is 1/3 of entire season) let alone potentialy 6 (that would be half) games of the buckeye season which i have waited all year to start. Add in the fact that im saving 30 bucks a month of my bill and it was a win win situation for me.

I'm not really a fan of all these networks that will be coming up, but I have to say that if you are a fan of basketball, the BTN SHOULD be a good deal for you. Sure, there'll be plenty of other sports and crap on that you don't care about, but that's no different than any other network.

And I'll get a chance to watch some OSU hockey this year hopefully....

Continuing the hypocrisy, there are radio ads here in Denver asking CSU Rams and AF Falcons fans who subscribe to DTV/Dish to call and demand their satellite provider add "the mtn." so they can see the games (Comcast has this channel on digital classic tier). Judging by the similarity of the 4 spots (Rams/DTV, Rams/Dish, Falcons/DTV, Falcons/Dish) but no spots demanding for Comcast to have it on "expanded basic" there is little doubt that Comcast is behind this.

Plus they have this posted on "the mtn." website
the mtn.

I'm not sure I see the problem in that. They have it in a different tier. Seems plausible to me.

Yes, it's on a different tier, but it's not on a SPORTS tier, which is where they want to put BTN for everyone (including within the footprint).

Also, they do have it on expanded basic in Utah, FWIW.

Ultimately I realize it's not apples to apples when using a piddly Mountain West network example to justify how they should treat BTN, but it's just another example of them singing one tune (puttingfansfirst) while they hum another (call your provider to request the mtn.)

Per Time Warner Cable

Time Warner Cable: Big 10 Network

TWC claims that at most 2 more games will be on BTN. My guess is that only one game (Kent State) will be on BTN.

I'm guessing Kent State and either Minnesota or Illinois.

According to the BTN:

Each football team is guaranteed to make at least two appearances on the network per year and one of them will be a conference game.
