Bill O’Brien (HC Boston College, aka BillyBob O’Buttchin et al)

I like how I really didn't like Bill at all, then he was hired and I talked myself into liking him. Heard about his kid and whatnot. Now I like him. And he didn't even do anything.

Best of luck with everything, Bill.
Kinda how I feel. Though I wasn't big on him at until I heard about the stuff with his kid in the BC stuff. Now I feel bad I can't in good conscious call him Bill O'Buttchin anymore

I hope he can cash in on what Hafley put together…..am really curious to see if he can hold together the roster Hafley built. I’m not saying they’re contenders to win the ACC but Thomas Castellanos (QB) is really gifted. They have two solid WR’s (one of which, Lewis Bond, will be heavily sought by Big 10 teams - from Chicago area). They also brought in a 7th year, veteran TE from UNC which was a solid addition (Morales). Kye Robicheaux began to stand out at RB last year, so a few kids on depth chart at RB transferred out, but they were able to land big time RB from Kansas State TreShaun Ward which makes that a really nice combo with Castellanos’s mobility.

And after multiple years of substandard OL play, they were finally returning a group that had RS Seniors and RS Juniors along every position with depth.

Defensively, they shored up the secondary with Cam Martinez and Ryan Turner from OSU….Martinez will start right away, Turner probably adds depth. The BC defense was solid and a veteran group coming back.

I really think Hafley was on track for a break through year (8-4ish) maybe even 9-3 with a soft ACC schedule. I just don’t think Hafley had the stomach for the year round demands of a college HC, constantly revamping the roster, and also watching his coaching staff get picked apart every offseason. It’s pretty remarkable how highly viewed Hafley is seen in NFL circles (with his links to McCvay, Shannahan, LeFleuer….they’re all very tight and come from same tree). Every year Hafley’s OC or DC was poached….often by NFL teams that viewed a Hafley hire as a seal of approval bc of how intelligent the coaching community views him.

Anyways, I do hope Bill O’Brien, can #1 keep the talent assembled at BC, and prevent a mass exodus of players into the portal with their 30 day window. And #2, I hope he has early success and can carry out what Hafley had started…it’s a much better roster than 95% of college football analysts realize….

If he had even the slightest involvement of getting Sayin to transfer to OSU then I would say that his time here was time well spent

“I really want to thank Ryan Day, the head football coach at Ohio State, for his patience and his understanding of why it was so important for me to pursue this job,” O’Brien said Thursday. “A lot of people here at Boston College are familiar with Ryan Day (who was previously an assistant coach at Boston College from 2003-04, 2007-11 and 2013-14); Ryan Day is an outstanding person, an outstanding coach and he was great during this whole process.”
