Bitching about the 2004 Season

Kirk Herbstriet/Jim Tressel relationship - Good or Bad.

I want to know something that has bothered me for quite awhile. So I figured some of you who live in Columbus could be more direct to answer my question. I understand that Kirk Herbstriet was allowed much more freedom and access to the WHAC under John Coopers reign, more so than what Kirk is allowed to do now, under Jim Tressel. I have heard some say that Herbstriet was alot more closer to John Cooper than Jim Tressel. Any truth to that ?

I don't see how it could be very good right now.. All Kirk does is tear this team up. He hasn't once made a comment about how to fix our problems.

i wouldnt hesitate to put kirk in the category of... "ohio state won for two years with coopers recruits and in spite of tressel's coaching..."

kirk is smart enought to realize that the buckeyes need at least an average offense to consistently contend.....

Herbie was Coops first recruit I believe. They probably have a good relationship.

Herbie does know football. It's just when he questions JT people get mad at him.

People don't want him to be objective, they want him to wear the same glasses alot of fans wear.

I'm sure they get along just fine. I could definitely understand Herbie being closer Coop. I mean, let's face it--not everyone hates Coop and loves Tressel (NO! IT CAN'T BE!). I like Coop. I'm just glad he's not our head coach anymore .

I still remember seeing that image of Kirk jumping on Eddie George's back on the sidelines as someone made a big play in the Fiesta Bowl. I can't see why Kirk and Tress don't get along--I haven't heard Kirk say any less than a lot of posters here have (3 losses at a university like OSU is bound to bring out some criticism). Also--he's in the national spotlight, not just local. It's his job to call it like he sees it... not spew bias like guys like Beano Cook.

Ask yourselves this: would you rather see Kirk be like he is now, or like Beano/Lemming, blowing the horn of the colleges to which they have ties; full of the hot air they exhume? Me personally? I love Kirk... he represents the university as an alumni more than well in the national spotlight (especially next to a borderline escaped mental trained ape like Corso (whom I also really enjoy :))). Not to mention he's been a great success on what I consider the best pre-game show in CFB and all of sports.

This is absolutely not true. On his largest forum (Gameday) he came right out and said JT should hand the reigns over to an OC. Not that this idea is anything new, but he did say it.
Yeah, but that's almost the same as coming out and saying "Well we could fix it by firing the guy".

Sure things would be DIFFERENT if we brought in an offensive coordinator. Assuming that offensive coordinator called different plays, or had different authorities, or this or that.

Truth being, just saying "He should hire an OC" really means nothing, unless something else with some substance is said along with it.

P.S. - I don't listen to his radio show, so I have no clue if he's gone in depth there about how to fix things...

So, what you're telling everyone is: you want Kirk Herbstreit, who gets paid to cover the entire scope of college football in 2 hours, to come out and give his in-depth opinion on what Ohio State should do to fix their team? Yes, I can see him keeping his job quite a long time... :roll2:

Herbie questions the system

You're saying that he didn't offer any solutions, and then you say that the ones he offered weren't enough. BTW, Tressel's already expressed that he didn't need Herbie's solutions.

That guy has other means to explain his jabs.. he does do a radio show.. he can talk in the media.. you don't jab the whole team and then expect not to be jabbed back.
But you just said you don't listen to his radio show... so how the hell would you know? Just try to stir shit up with this?

Another thing: why does anyone have to explain themselves? We had Lydell Ross have 10 carries for ZERO yards one game... to say we have a problem on offense is something I'm sure any casual sports fan could recognize. Why does he have to tell you how to fix it? He seems happy at ESPN and doesn't seem like he wants a coaching job... so why should he play coach? Quell guys like you? Pfft.
