Celtics' Garnett leads James in All-Star voting

Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics is the leading vote-getter for the 2008 NBA All-Star Game with 1,186,690 votes in the latest set of returns. Celtics forward Paul Pierce and guard Ray Allen were fourth at their positions in the Eastern Conference.
Boston acquired Garnett from Minnesota and Allen from Seattle in the offseason.

Pierce shows skills, overshadows Allen in 1st trip back to Seattle

SEATTLE (AP) -- Forget those two new guys who give Boston its latest version of the Big Three. Paul Pierce can still carry the Celtics just like the past when he was the only option.
While most of the attention focused on Ray Allen's return to Seattle, it was Pierce who took over for Boston on Thursday night, much as he had to do in past seasons without the type of All-Star help now surrounding him. Pierce scored 26 of his season-high 37 points in the second half, and the Celtics held off the pesky SuperSonics 104-96.

Ray Allen returned to Seattle, where he was a four-time All-Star with the Sonics. He scored a season-low 10 points as Boston won 104-96, improving to an NBA-best 24-3 behind Paul Pierce's 37 points.

SEATTLE -- Not going to the playoffs for the sixth time in seven seasons or competing for an NBA title? Possibly moving to Oklahoma City or living close to your offseason Connecticut home in Boston? Playing with one Kevin who is a rookie or another Kevin who is a future Hall of Famer?
Ray Allen wasn't exactly thrilled initially when the Seattle SuperSonics traded him to the Celtics on draft night. But when you compare what it is like to play for the title-contending Celtics with fellow superstars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce and what it would be like playing for rebuilding Seattle, Allen believes that the Sonics ultimately did him a favor by trading him.
"Did they do me a favor?," Allen asked. "Yup, look where I am. Who knows what would have happened? With me being here and the resurgence here in Boston, being able to be on one of the best teams in the NBA, yeah, I think they did me a great favor."

In their forgettable 2006-07 season, the Boston Celtics couldn't manage to win 25 games - or win one against the Utah Jazz.
They can accomplish both feats Saturday night. The sizzling Celtics look for their third straight win on a four-game Western road trip and their fifth victory in a row overall as they face the Jazz for the first time this season. After offseason moves brought All-Stars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to Boston to join team mainstay Paul Pierce, the Celtics (24-3) have made winning in appear almost easy. Their current four-game streak is their third of at least that length in 2007-08, and they have yet to lose two straight.

Year in review: An immediate transformation for C's

By Jim Fenton, ENTERPRISE STAFF WRITER
BOSTON ? The look on their faces the night of May 22 was the same look worn by Boston Celtics' fans everywhere.

Executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge and Coach Doc Rivers had identical stunned expressions in the aftermath of the NBA Draft Lottery.

Instead of winning a chance to select Greg Oden or Kevin Durant, the first step in turning around the lowly Celtics, the night turned into a disaster.

The Celtics, who stumbled through the 2006-07 season as the second-worst team in the NBA with a 24-58 record, fell all the way to fifth in the draft lottery that disappointing spring night.

Have I ever told anyone how much I hate the Pistons? I don't just want to win this game, I want to see several dunks right in Rasheed's face. That stupid crybaby deserves his come-uppance. Go Celts!

P.S. Any old-time Celtics fans here remember the McHale 3-pointer? That was a classic Celtics-Pistons moment.
