Bowl Possibilities for tOSU

Based on how the teams in the B1G currently look, here's my IMO on who'd go where:

Rose Bowl- Wisky
Capital One Bowl- MSU
Outback Bowl- UNL

The three bowls we are probably looking at, should be some combination of OSU, PSU,scUM or Iowa:

Gator Bowl- If OSU wins out, OSU
Insight bowl- If OSU is 1-1, OSU
Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas- If OSU loses out, OSU
- or -
Ticket City Bowl
Little Ceasars Pizza Bowl- Illinois

just throwing this out there, mostly because i don't know how the tiebreaker even works, but if this scenario happens, won't ohio state still go to indianapolis?

  • Ohio State beats Penn State, Michigan
  • Wisconsin loses to Illinois, beats Penn State
  • Penn State loses both games

?

Yes. tOSU would win any 3-team or 4-team tiebreakers (with Purdue in the mix), which are possible if tOSU wins both games, and Wiscy loses at Illinois but beats PSU. The details are in the Leaders thread and in the tOSU-PSU game thread.

You can put the Illini in the DNF column. They've all but pulled the plug since the Buckeyes beat them. I see unemployment in Zooker's near future.

Stewart Mandel of SI addresses this today in his mailbag as one of the things Big Ten fans may have to adjust to, and coming from the Big XII I agree with him. Making it to the league championship game and losing typically hurts with bowl prospects. Bowls don't like picking a team coming off of a loss. If Nebraska wins out or to an extent 1-1 in their last two games, they likely get ahead picked ahead of Michigan State.

Good point, but don't go thinking that failing to make the conference championship game is going to get you guys in the Rose Bowl again.

I don't have a problem with the Gator or Outback bowls this year... not sure I want to see 'Bama in the Capital One... I think we have even talent which makes it a Saban vs. Fickell matchup.

If there is a bowl ban, a one-year bowl ban this year would be the best case scenario....

Edit: I don't mind an Oregon or Stanford match up... at all. I think we have more talent than either team, which gives us a shot. We could easily lose, too, but I think it would be a great thing to get to the Rose Bowl again... 7th B1G ch'p in a row would be worth the trip...

Edit, Edit... just realized that Bama in the SEC's 2nd BCS is much more likely than in the Capital One... so we get Auburn or South Carolina in the Capital One? Don't hate that either, I guess... (Assuming LSU wins the SECCG)

Or we could lose to Purdue... so... yeah, I've got nothing now... hope for the seniors that we can win out and get to a good bowl... meh

AND as long as Nebraska wins out, would probably be the best bet to be the 2nd BCS invite from the B1G if we get a 2nd team. I am sure the Fiesta Bowl would LOVE to put Oklahoma v Nebraska together. And I can easily see them pass on Stanford.

You forgot the slight chance for a 2nd BCS team.

Also of note, the Insight Bowl actually has the #4 pick and the Gator has the #5 pick.

Yeah if it sets up that way that OU isn't in a position to play in the title game and Nebraska wins out (I'll believe it when I see it) the Fiesta will in all likelihood pass on Stanford. That of course as you mentioned bumps everyone else up a spot on the bowl order.

Perhaps we'll win a spot in the Chia Pet Bowl.

Coach Tressel spoiled us rotten.

I was explaining to some friends that this is such a shock of a season. Not because the writing wasn't on the wall etc...but because it has been such an incredible run. I got so used to worrying about which overrated SEC team needed to lose for tOSU to get into the NC that it's strange to realize the Bucks will most likely not be playing in a premiere bowl.

Either way, Go Bucks! Beat the shit out of Penn State, then humiliate scUM.
