BP Vacation Thread: What To Do Where You're Going

Took a day trip to Bisbee AZ yesterday. Awesome little town, old mining town turned artist colony/hippy-gayville. Lots of old restored building, good restaurants and coffee shops. It was fun freak watching too.

I know we've got some Chicagoans floating around here so hopefully I can get some good advice on this one.

I'll be in Chicago the weekend of October 20th and am looking for dinner suggestions for Friday and Saturday night and a bar suggestion to watch the Ohio State game in the loop/near north side area.

Thanks ahead of time for any feedback.

Looking for recommendations for an island beach vacation (May/June-ish) with the wife, probably some sort of all-inclusive resort, without getting too far out into the Caribbean. Seems like everyone goes to Cancun, and we may end up doing that, but would prefer something not... Mexico. Anybody been to Dominican Republic?

I always recommend Punta Cana, DR. The beach is awesome and the prices of the all-inclusive resorts are fair.

On the more pricy-end, I highly recommend Sandles Negril, Jamaica. Did my honeymoon there and it could not have been more perfect in terms of a great beach, nice facilities, and amazing food. Don't know if this is too far out, and the beach is not great, but the Sonesta Maho resort in Sint Maarten is a nice stay at a good price. If you want a good beach it is not the place to go; but if you want a great island for shopping, dining, and exploring, it is hard to beat.

Thanks! Punta Cana seems to be rising to the top of my list based on early research. Any specific recommendations for resorts?

We enjoyed Excellence Punta Cana and Princess Punta Cana. If you like to party Princess might be a bit too subdued for you (older and more mature crowd). I also heard they are renovating so it might not be the best time to go. Excellence is great as well. The only major concern I had is it was quite secluded as it was an hour and a half away from the airport. My wife and I were always a little jittery about going on long walks since we were so isolated. My wife wasn't too crazy about feeling so isolated in a third world country. It didn't bother me so much. There are no resorts around Excellence for about a mile and a half each direction. We're heading to Majestic Colonial in PC in a couple of weeks and heard it is also very good.

Went to Cabo last year for a joint bachelor/bachelorette party, not bad. Some beautiful views down there. Cannot remember all the bars/clubs we went to, though I know we made it into Cabo Wabo, which is Sammy Hagar's place. It was a good time, much older crowd, however the band definitely rocked.

I have also been to Punta Cana, we went to Iberostar Grand Bavaro (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...a_Altagracia_Province_Dominican_Republic.html) which is the #2 rated resort in Punta Cana. Everything was pretty damn good, especially the beach. Best beach environment we have had yet.

Here is a photo of our view during lunch every day...

We go to Virgin Gorda (BVIs) for our island vacations. We'll be there in March for the 7th time. No planning required because there isn't much to do - beach, snorkel, dive, eat, drink, sleep.

We're headed to Machu Picchu and the Amazon this fall. Any recs? We've been working with some tour guides to get a trip set up, but wanted to know if there is anything you recommend. Thanks!
