Bret Bielema (HC Illinois)

When I type "bret bielema is" into Google, autocomplete suggests three options (i.e., "a douche", "a jerk", and "a drunk"). I don't want to start the 1-5 versus the Buckeyes back in this thread again (see Open Discussion to participate in that one). But, wow, that is really some pretty stunning stuff if you are trying to manage yourself as a brand.

September letter connects Bielema, Arkansas - Fox Sports Wisconsin

Well before Bret Bielema accepted the football head coaching position at the University of Arkansas, he was an admirer of Razorbacks athletic director Jeff Long. We now know this because Bielema sent Long a hand-written letter of support commending him for his handling of former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino.

Petrino was fired last April after it was revealed he had an affair with a woman who worked in the athletic department.

Long admitted last week that he still had the letter from Bielema, the former Wisconsin coach, which he said was sent some time in September. He noted the coach's letter was one of three or four he received relating to the decision to fire Petrino and hire John L. Smith on an interim basis.

I'm sure every coach writes at least one love letter to some random AD. [Mark May], I bet Geiger got tons of Valentines every year.
Yuck.

Not that it matters now but people may want to consider the extraordinary set of circumstances at play in the B1G the past 6 years or so that played a HUGE role in Bert's record. The Rich Rod crippling of the scUM program, Tatgate at OSU the past 2 years and Sandusky incident at PSU this year all padded his record.

Since Wiscy lost to tOSU the last 2 years, and at PSU in OT this year, I guess you're saying his record was padded by getting into the B1G CCG both years, rather than him actually beating those troubled teams head-to-head.

Defensive coordinator Chris Ash will follow Bielema to Arkansas - Today's THV

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Univ. of Ark.) - Chris Ash, who helped lead Wisconsin to three straight Rose Bowls, has been named Arkansas' defensive coordinator, head coach Bret Bielema announced Tuesday. Ash will remain with the Wisconsin program through its appearance in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 2013.

"I am excited to welcome Chris to our staff," Coach Bielema said. "In the last three years working together, I gained a great respect for the way Chris teaches the game and develops student-athletes. I've followed his career for a long time, and his knowledge of the way we run our program and specifically the defense will be valuable for us moving forward in our transition. Chris helped us improve drastically in our pass defense at Wisconsin where his defenses consistently ranked in the top 25 nationally in all the major categories."

Ash spent the last three seasons at Wisconsin and helped the Badgers win three straight Big Ten championships and become the first Big Ten team to play in three straight Rose Bowls since Michigan following the 1976-78 seasons. Ash brings experience as a defensive coordinator at two other schools and has also been a recruiting coordinator three times in his career.
