Statement from University of Tennessee Director of Athletics Mike Hamilton

Today, we are announcing that we have reached an agreement with Bruce Pearl that will result in him and his immediate staff being relieved of their duties with the University of Tennessee men?s basketball program. This is a difficult day for many obvious reasons.

...

The months that followed have been difficult on everyone ? our staff, our coaches, our administration, our fans and, certainly, our young men. During this time, the dynamics of our case with the NCAA have evolved further, including additional violations committed on September 14 and in March 2011. The cumulative effect of the evolution of the investigation combined with a number of more recent non-NCAA-related incidents have led to a belief that this staff cannot be viable at Tennessee in the future. Therefore, it is in the best interests of our institution to move in a different direction.

continued...
edit: i wonder if the alleged violations committed in march were ncaa-related. i know the following sentence states that there were "recent non-ncaa-related" incidents," but hamilton initially refers to "violations," which sounds more severe than internal incidents.

Man o'man are they reaching to blame others.....

Of course I'm defending Bruce. I know plenty of D1 athletes that I have grown up with that have seen first hand the dirty game of recruiting. Coaches bend the rules every day, hell Matta probably committed a couple secondaries to get Craft. The point is it was completely unnecessary to go out of his way to unearth it if that is what happened.

Now it is a conspiracy caused by OSU....

I agree with Bobby on this,I was at the game in St. Louis when we defeated Ohio State.I figure this is some "crafted" revenge on a coach that had the audacity to put a program like OSU out of the dance.....:slappy:

it's just funny how many of the tennessee boards don't get the primary issue here. yes, pearl having recruits over for a barbecue is a violation. the actual issue, though, is that pearl knew it was a violation, told the recruits that it was a violation if they showed up, and then lied to the ncaa by claiming ignorance when he was shown a picture taken during the barbecue.

What all of these orange creme margarita nutbags are overlooking, or likely choosing to ignore, is that Pearl has a long history of sliminess that follows him all the way back to Iowa City.
yep, and their hypocrisy is astounding when they claim that craft and mattta are scum for turning in pearl. they think that matta was bitter over the loss to tennessee in the sweet sixteen and used the barbecue photo as a way to get back. conspiracies aside, don't the volunteer fans know that their ex-coach secretly recorded a conversation with a recruit that pearl (while an assistant at iowa) lost to illinois?
