Your Cousin In New Mexxico
Got my first flat screen HDTV, a Sony LCD 40inch EX500. Was much better than my old Tosh regular tv. Was mostly happy but had a nagging discontent it wasn't even better. Sony was just not bright enough for my very bright environment. Over Thanksgiving I had time at my sister's in Cali and saw her recently bought Sharp LCD/LED! Ah [censored]! There is just no comparison! The Sharp is worlds better in every way! It's like comparing scUM's defense to ours! :tongue2: And the price dif is only $250!!!! [censored]! [censored]! [censored]! The Sony is going back and I'm going all in on a Sharp LCD/LED and HDTV!
If your looking at buying a new tv you owe it to yourself to check out the Sharp!

Right now Dell has the Mitsubish 60" DLP 3d-ready set for $599. I know its DLP, but its a hell of a deal, and honestly I still think the DLP's are sharper than the LCD's or Plasmas. The blacks are better for sure, and the color seems much more crisp. I picked one up on black friday for $499 with free shipping. Ridiculous TV.

Edit: Guess I shud include a link or something.

OK! Further research has found a cure for my "dark" screen blues. It's the "Ambient Sensor" that is the "problem". Turning it off restored a much brighter picture. Actually a very good picture. :tongue2:

I bought my flat screen from Walmart.
But here's a little secret. In Walmart's return room you can steal a great deal on returned tvs! The one I saw was $150 less then the current Black Friday Sale price! It was tempting but I wanted a 120hz tv for sports viewing. :oh:

What is the general consensus of Westinghouse TVs?

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Westinghouse-46-LD-4655VX/16004945#ProductDetail

This would be a secondary TV so I'm not looking for the best of the best.

Chi Mei is an OEM that has made displays for other companies for about 15 years. They're the fourth largest set producer in the world. They actually won a large Sony contract last year once Sony decided to ditch their partnership with Samsung. Chi Mei are the current holder of rights to the Westinghouse Digital name and use that for direct sale to consumers in the USA.

Westinghouse TVs typically sacrifice features to cut costs, but if you put a Westinghouse beside a Bravia B-series, you won't notice a difference in the picture. They're literally the exact same TV. (Sony's more expensive displays are now made by Sharp, last I read).

I got a 27" Westinghouse refurb for a ridiculous price several years ago. Every once in a while it would have a weird thing that would require it to unplugged to reset it, but that likely could have been because it was a refurb. It has worked fine for a tv in our bedroom, but we haven't even turned it on since we had the baby last year. Good enough quality to watch HD in our bedroom. I wouldn't get one for my main TV or a home theater.

Yikes.... I would pay the extra 100 for a Samsung. I'm a huge fan of Samsung's after the 32 I bought a couple of years ago. Great picture, never had burn in issues, and it's got a swivel stand. (If I would have gone bigger, I would have wall mounted, but since it's a 32, I LOVE the swivel stand.)

Second this. Now if Westinghouse had a deal where it was out of this world, then I'd say go for it.
Right, I have no problem with a killer $200 deal on a smaller HDTV from Westinghouse... something to toss in an office where you don't care that much about image clarity.

Agreed. My two LCD's are Samsung. 32" and 46". I've had the 32" for about 4 years now. And the 46" for about a year. I haven't had one problem with them.

And boy do I love my 46" wall mounted....mmmmm mmm

That'll be the next TV I purchase. Either a 46" or a 50"
