Elbow injury isn?t expected to limit OSU?s Oden
Friday, February 23, 2007

Greg Oden?s latest accessory on his battered body is a black elastic wrap around his left elbow. After he helped the Ohio State men?s basketball team survive another upset bid by Penn State, the wrap was replaced by a large bag of ice.
The 7-foot freshman grimaced in pain, grabbed the arm and temporarily left the game Wednesday after becoming entangled with Penn State center Brandon Hassell as they fought for position in the lane.
"He kind of bent my arm back and it started hurting in my elbow," Oden said.
Trainer Vince O?Brien said yesterday that Oden has a sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament.

Is Oden's last home game Sunday?

Freshman is not saying, so OSU is only planning to honor its two seniors.

COLUMBUS ? Ivan Harris and Ron Lewis sat at the interview table Friday, discussing their last home basketball game as Ohio State Buckeyes.
Two days before Sunday's Big Ten battle with Wisconsin, the scarlet-and-gray elephant in the room was whether this could be Greg Oden's last home game.

COMMENTARY
If he goes, Oden will leave many memories
Sunday, February 25, 2007
BOB HUNTER

It?s hard to buy a ticket to history. Real history, the kind you remember forever, is seldom accompanied by a news release.
A No. 1 vs. No. 2 pairing such as the Wisconsin-Ohio State men?s basketball game today always seems certain to be a lifetime memory ? and rarely is. If there?s one thing that dull Super Bowls should have taught us, it?s that hype is often no match for real history. The game you?re still wistfully talking about 50 years from now usually has more going for it than rankings, titles or TV hyperbole.

COLUMBUS ? Greg Oden heard the Schottenstein Center fans chanting, "One More Year," after the Ohio State basketball team's exciting 49-48 victory Sunday over Wisconsin.
It was Senior Day for the Buckeyes' Ivan Harris and Ron Lewis, but many Buckeye fans hoped it wasn't also Oden's last home game.

Oden's farewell, but is it really?

[email protected] This is college life when you're a 7-footer and the NBA has an armored car running outside, with enough money in the back for you to buy your own area code. The home fans have barely said hello, and part of you is wondering if it is already time to say goodbye.

Greg Oden, they hardly knew ye.
Oden played in his 13th home game as an Ohio State Buckeye on Sunday. Also, very possibly, his last. So the 49-48 win over Wisconsin, good for the Big Ten title and delivered on a late basket by Oden's high school teammate Mike Conley, seemed a fine farewell.
If that's what it was.

Greg Oden hugs Ivan Harris in the celebration after Ohio State?s 49-48 win over Wisconsin that clinched the Big Ten title.
Greg Oden heard the sellout crowd in Value City Arena serenading him with chants of "one more year."
"I was, too," coach Thad Matta said with a smile.
Oden was too coy to answer their prayers, however, after the Ohio State men?s basketball team beat Wisconsin 49-48 and won the Big Ten championship yesterday in its final home game of the season ? perhaps the last the 7-foot freshman will play in the building.

off by himself

Did anyone else who was there notice Greg's actions following the brief "awarding of the B10 trophy?" Right after Matta spoke and as the team turned to face the band and sing the alma mater, Greg left the team at center court, walked down to the west basket (away from the band), climbed up the ladder and cut down part of the net, and then walked off the court to the locker room (not even down the normal tunnel they come out/leave the court from). What is up with him dissing the team like that and not even waiting while his teammates cut down the net? Everyone in the arena was standing still for carmen ohio and he doesn't bother, he leaves the team and does his own thing. It's one thing if that was his last game with OSU and he's leaving and all his teammates are sort of resentful of him leaving, but that is not the case. There is a month and a half left in this season, and I was really disappointed in his actions after the game. :!

If he did do all of the stuff that the poster mentioned, there is really no excuse for that behavior. I agree that perhaps he is looking for something bigger this year but when your school's alma mater is being played you really should pay attention.

Eh, we really have no idea the reason for those actions. To assume it was some sort of slap in the face to the team seems premature.

I'll wait to hear his reasons for whatever was done before I criticize.

Okay lets say he did this. Care to explain how on the news last night they were showing them cutting down the net and Oden cut the last string?

People can be so judgmental -- it has been less than a month since Greg's best friend (my nephew) was tragically killed. Could you take the time to think that (1) Greg wanted to win the B10 not only for his team but for Travis as well (2) the extra piece of the net was for Travis and/or his family? You have no idea how much this kid is going through emotionally since the accident, but he is very private (which is why he took the extra piece of net away from everyone else) and will not talk about it to people. Cut him a little slack -- there will never be a more team-minded player or better kid to wear an OSU uniform and to criticize him for something like this is absurd. Enjoy the next month and a half.
