People can be so judgmental -- it has been less than a month since Greg's best friend (my nephew) was tragically killed. Could you take the time to think that (1) Greg wanted to win the B10 not only for his team but for Travis as well (2) the extra piece of the net was for Travis and/or his family? You have no idea how much this kid is going through emotionally since the accident, but he is very private (which is why he took the extra piece of net away from everyone else) and will not talk about it to people. Cut him a little slack -- there will never be a more team-minded player or better kid to wear an OSU uniform and to criticize him for something like this is absurd. Enjoy the next month and a half.

Well said.

Or maybe he wasnt feeling well, or maybe he was in pain....the point it who knows. The guy was fine with reporting the facts, but the last few lines were a little harsh all things considered.

That was my point as well. He has never shown a selfish or self-important tendency, so why would someone assume that of him now?

Thanks (as always) for your insight into the situation. I have no doubts regarding the character of this young man.

Bless Greg Oden for his patience and calmness on the court and his humility off the court. He's a joy to watch and represents The University very well. He's done so much for the school. Way to represent Indianapolis too!

Go Bucks!

College Basketball: Oden and Ohio State could both be No.1

COLUMBUS, Ohio: As the student section emptied out onto the floor in the aftermath of Ohio State's one-point victory against top-ranked Wisconsin , a chant as naive as it was loud reverberated through Value City Arena.
"One more year, one more year."
Zoe Oden, the mother of the Ohio State freshman center Greg Oden, put her index finger to her lips and gave a "shhhhh" to the crowd as her son tried to soak in the Buckeyes' clinching of the Big Ten regular-season title after it won 49-48 on Sunday night.
There is little doubt that Oden will declare for the NBA draft after the season and become the No. 1 pick, but he was adamant that there was still a lot of work left for these Buckeyes (26-3, 14-1 Big Ten) before he skipped town.

Without question, Greg Oden made a giant contribution in Ohio State?s run to an outright Big Ten championship. But should the freshman be considered for national player of the year? This week, members of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association made Oden one of six finalists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, which they award to the nation?s top player. Joining him are Kevin Durant of Texas, Tyler Hansbrough of North Carolina, Joakim Noah of Florida, Alando Tucker of Wisconsin and Arron Afflalo of UCLA.
