Can we fire this woman already?

To the anonymous poster who sent me a negative rep accusing me of being a Democrat, I say thank you. That was one of the funniest damn things I've read in a long time.

I suggest you work on your character evaluation skills and get back to me. In the meantime, you might want to visit the Politics forum.

I guess I would have a little more respect for the tailgate whiners if they actually understood the issue. Contrary to mythology, she doesn't have a hard-on for tailgaters, she isn't pulling "shit with them. The State of Ohio has a law against open containers of alcohol on public property. The campus is public property, and the heat came down after some "celebrations" got out of hand. The fact is, the law was always there, and some idiots created a situation where OSU can no longer ignore it. It doesn't matter whether the knuckleheads were students or not; it doesn't matter if you disagree with the law. That's just the reality of it.

In plain English, Ohio law prohibits:
  • Persons under 21 years old from consuming, purchasing or possessing alcoholic beverages
  • Giving or selling alcoholic beverages to persons under 21 years old
  • Having an open container of alcoholic beverage in a public place, regardless of your age. Public places are those which anyone can enter freely and include sidewalks, streets, tree lawns, some outdoor areas of apartment complexes, and inside parked or moving cars.
  • Using false identification to obtain alcoholic beverages
  • Allowing underage persons to consume alcoholic beverages on your property
Punishment for these first-degree misdemeanors can be up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000.

Attacking the President for it is stupid, childish or both. When you have a REAL issue about her job performance, then I'll talk about firing her. The arguments presented, to date, have been laughable at best.
How the hell do tailgaters have anything to do with the "knuckleheads?" I'm assuming you mean the idiots that burn cars?

Tailgaters are the middle age alumni like myself that roll up in an RV and eat bratwurst and Bud for breakfast. I've never seen a car rolled onto its top and set on fire in the parking lot of Bill Davis Stadium, but I've seen it on 12th Ave. I've never seen a beer bong descending from the top of Jesse Owens Track Stands, but I've seen one on 12th Ave that was three stories tall.

Should tailgaters whine? Abso-freaking-lutely. They have been targeted unfairly, when the real problems have occurred after the games on the other side of High Street. The fact is, the police had not enforced it provided tailgaters were relatively discrete and not acting the fool.

I will gladly have a beer out of a red solo cup. I will gladly tailgate year after year. Why? Cuz I'm gonna be an alumni long after she is gone and all this stupid shit is long forgotten.

Thanks for giving me a bad reputation. The title of the thread is "Can we fire this woman already?" Guess I should have kept my opinion to myself. Now, where is my red solo cup?

The whole open container situation is really a difficult one. Yes it is against the law to have an open container on public property, but for so many years, the police barely enforced that law and people became accustomed to breaking it. Now Holbrook has come into office and the laws have been enforced to a much higher degree. This may or may not have been her decision and to solely blame her is foolish. As much as I wish I could drink by the stadium like I could a couple years ago, I guess I can't argue that they are doing this. Public urination is a problem and is pretty gross. I have been in a garage where someone will plop down 15 feet from you and start going

Don't get me wrong, I am definitely angry with many of Holbrook's policies and really wish we had Kirwin back, but I don't think we can just sit here and blame her solely for this situation. If you want to start blaming Holbrook for something, blame her for neglecting the undergraduate students and focusing all the school's $$$ on paying salaries of big name professors in research who don't give two shits about teaching students. Blame her for solely funding graduate students who sit and research all day while undergraduates are working in labs that are falling apart and have machines made in the early 1900s. It's a pretty touchy subject with me as I have seen my tuition increase a good 25% over the past 5 years.

All in all, make sure you are blaming Holbrook for the right reasons and not using her as a scapegoat for all the inconveniences of football Saturdays. There's always the Hineygate right across the street if you need your drinks and don't mind waiting in a 10 minute line and paying $5 a beer.
