Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

Somebody said the other day that a Z buyout would save the Wizards about $3 million. I'm not buying the LeBron-sold-out-Z angle. This is the business of the NBA, and Z had to know this was a possibility. If he wants to be in Cleveland, it's kinda up to him at this point. Demand a buyout from Washington. Don't report. I know it's not in his nature to do such things, but him and his agent can force the issue if they really want to.

I'd report, but ask to be released and give no effort if they deny. Z isn't a cancer type of guy so that might be hard for him. Who knows if he'd even want to resign with the Cavs.

He loves Cleveland, has made it his permanent residence, and wanted to retire here. I'm sure he'd love to be cut and resign for the playoff run....

That's true. I'd at least want out of Washington if I were him. Dude might get shot.

I would have to think Z will come back.

He would be a legend and beloved if he returned to Cleveland this year.

Washington just traded away anyone worth a shit to cut money.

It would be a complete reversal to keep Z and his contract. Makes no sense.

washington is still on the hook for the remainder of Z's salary for the year. they can buy him out at a fraction of it, and he can resign for the BAE/MLE with the cavs in 30 days.

washington is dumping salary and contracts, they have no reason to keep him. they don't want his bird rights as they aren't going to sign him after the season.

they would essentially be paying about $3 million to spite the cavs by not buying him out. the whole reason the clippers were brought in to the fold was to give washington enough young talent to allow them to cut Z.

Now sure how I feel about this.

If we get Z back which I really hope we will, then I think its obviously a great deal.

its a great deal even if we dont get Z back...Jamison for Z and a first rounder...this is another ferry steal...obviously our depth at C is now not as good but in some situations jamison could play C and verajo can play C as well...which is what he will have to do now for at least a month...looking at wizards C situation they have blatche and Mcgee who they are trying to develop...no way they keep Z to hinder their progress...and obviously they do this trade to kill cap room....bottom line Z wasnt keeping lebron in town next year

But this move is the culmination of a series of moves over 7 years to build this team around a guy (Lebron) we're not even sure wants to be here.
Would it have been better to make no moves over 7 years to not build a team around him?

OH10;1661390; said:
The whole franchise changed for this guy. And now the last hold out from a time before he arrived is gone... for the sake, again, of making said guy happy.
Yeah the whole franchise has changed. "Said guy" has increased the franchise value by $218 MILLION since he arrived.

Here's why this move bothers me (besides the fact that I firmly believe Z deserves better):

The Cavs don't do this deal without checking with Lebron first. That would be irresponsible. So Lebron signed off on getting rid of Z??? Doesn't that fly in the face of all of this "he loves his teammates" argument people advance to say he's going to stay? I mean, he always acted like he and Z were close. Not close enough apparently...

The move makes the team better. But... man, it doesn't even taste bitter sweet. Just tastes bitter.

Lebron.....such a villian.

How dare he desire that the CAVS have the best possible roster to compete in the playoffs.

How dare he desire a Championship for himself and, oh by the way, the city of Cleveland and all the fans would get the Championship too if Lebron gets one this year if I'm not mistaken.

Now hear this: THIS IS BIGGER THAN Z!!!!!!!! And Z is pretty f'ing big.

Dry your eyes. It's a business. It's not for the weak at heart. Dog eat dog.

Cut the "Lebron is such a bad guy" crap.

Everybody LOVES Z. Lebron included. Don't make it any worse than it has to be.

Also, let's also not jump to conclusions about Z not getting bought out.

What I've been hearing is that whichever team acquired Z stood to save in the neighborhood of 3 million by buying him out. Not chump change. Don't forget that if it wasn't all about money then this deal wouldn't have happened in the first place. For the Wizards this is ALL about money.

Many people seem to be agonizing over the Wizards supposedly trying to screw the CAVS over by not buying Z out. All that supposed rivalry crap. Is that rational or irrational?

If the Wizards wanted to screw the CAVS over why would they give us their star PF in the first place. I think the hatchet has been buried.

This is the best deal that Ferry could have made. Amare didn't seem to fit in with the CAVS and Hickson and Moon are still CAVS.

OH10, if you really are CAVS fan you had better sit back and enjoy the ride because this could be the only year the CAVS ever win a Championship. Go lay in bed and have a good cry over losing Z and tomorrow wake up and get ready to rock because the CAVS mean business and that includes that evil bad man named Lebron James.

Nothing personal OH10. This isn't about you. It's been way too f'ing long since Cleveland has won a Championship. All those years of losing. Now those were bitter. Trading Z. It doesn't even register on my scale of bitterness.

Go CAVS!!!!!!

So now that the deal is done does Jamison move right into the starting lineup (Friday I'd guess)? I'm sure Andy will move over and take most of the backup C minutes with Powe filling in as well. Mike Brown is going to have to relearn his rotations to see who works well together. I just hope they stay committed to getting JJ minutes now that he seems to be the 4 of the future.

according to windhorst on WTAM1100 about an hour ago he thinks mike brown will keep JJ in the starting lineup and bring jamison off the bench for now...doubtful he plays tomorrow night but he will be in cleveland...im assuming for a press confrence
