All I have is the stat line, but a 22 point win is a good start. First quarter didn't look good, but the Cavs won the other three by at least 10 pts. The starters played about half the game so it wasn't just the Cavs subs beating the Wizards subs.

Notes:
-Luke Jackson was 2-3 on 3's
-Andriuskevicius 4-4 on ft's, sounds like a young Z
-Gooden had 8 rebounds in 23 minutes, they say his defense has looked much better in practice this year

My guess is HOT!!! Wouldn't it kick ass to live with a couple of those girls? I wonder if any guys have ever had a chance to do that?

All I know that is if you live with professional cheerleaders you are guaranteed to score! I've read studies that prove only pornstars are less promiscuous than professional NBA cheerleaders. It also shows that only HOMOS cannot score with them.

Cavaliers start slow, finish fast

At first look, new weapons turn opener into a rout

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sports writer

WASHINGTON - The Cavaliers weren't dealing with rust in their first preseason game, more like shrink-wrap.

With new offensive and defensive systems, and less than a week to learn them, it seemed like their first day of school in the game against the Washington Wizards on Monday.

It certainly showed early in a dizzying array of mistakes, but they did reveal their much-hyped promise by the end of the evening. After an understandably absent-minded first quarter, they regrouped nicely and dominated the balance of the game.

LeBron James and Drew Gooden scored 16 points apiece to help the Cavs cruise to a 116-94 semi-meaningless win.

It didn't count in the standings, but, at least it reinforced that some of their work is producing fruit.

``I know it was a preseason game, and we don't put much stock in it, but the guys gave us effort,'' Cavs coach Mike Brown said. ``The things we've been working on started to kick in.''

The defense, which has been the focus of Brown's training camp, was commendable especially after a rocky start.

Brown hadn't gone through a press-breaker until shoot-around Monday morning, so when the Wizards came out with full-court pressure it caused some problems. The Cavs turned the ball over seven times in the first eight minutes, which sent the Wizards off to numerous easy baskets.

After the first quarter it was 41-30 Washington, not exactly the defensive pace that the Cavs have designated as their mantra. But once they were able to settle down, break the press and turn it into a halfcourt game, the new defensive strategies started to show.

With a scrambling defense constantly bringing weakside help, the Wizards' open shots dried up. They shot just 35 percent in the final three quarters and, after putting up 41 in the first 12 minutes, managed just 53 points the rest of the way.

``They started to trust the system, started to trust their teammates, started to communicate,'' Brown said. ``When we do that, we'll get results.''

Concentrating so much on defense, the Cavs only had five offensive plays in and, basically, just one out-of-bounds play. But by forcing 26 turnovers, which got them 36 points, they were able to turn it into a rout.

James made his first four shots and 7-of-11 on the night combined with three assists and four steals in 25 minutes.

Gooden was 5-of-5 from the field and also had a game-high eight rebounds.

Larry Hughes, making his return to the MCI Center after leaving the Wizards for the Cavs in free agency, was just 1-of-6 from the field but wasn't afraid to go to the basket and draw fouls. He got to the foul line nine times and finished with nine points, three assists and three rebounds.

It was the reserves who were, perhaps, most impressive. Alan Henderson scored seven points and had four rebounds in his first eight minutes on the floor. Luke Jackson, back to near 100 percent after back surgery, scored 12 points and had an explosive dunk in transition.

Free-agent pickups Donyell Marshall and Damon Jones had eight points each off the bench.

Nice to see them shoot 84% from the ft line.

I know Brown said "don't read anything into it", regarding Snow starting, but I still don't like to see him start, even in the preseason. At least he was smart and only shot twice.

Nice to see Jackson have a decent game. He'll be a nice contributer off the bench until he's ready to be a full time starter.

I was suprised that Andrekivicious (whatever) is even on the team this year. I thought he was to stay in Lithuania for another year. Two offensive boards and 4-4 from the ft line is fine by me.

Too bad about the cheerleaders, Golf. Maybe they found out you were a golfer and decided to go find an athlete for a roommate. Maybe they found a Canadian Curler to hang with.

I think they will need to start Marshall or Jones in order to have a shooter on the floor. If Gooden is as improved as it sounds I would start him and Jones and bring Snow and Marshall off the bench.
Andriuskevicius will spend this season in the NBADL along with (most likely) Azubuike.

Jahidi White.........Ugh.

The developmental league is long overdue.

Yea, I like Jones starting and Snow, Jackson and Marshall coming off the bench, along with Pavlovic. I see he beefed up in the offseason.

I read that Azubuike has been pretty impressive so far in camp.

On a good note, I see that Marty Andrekevicius is up to 240#. Still a toothpick but he was only 225 when he got drafted. He said he pounding down the food because he does not want to go to the NBDL.

It would be great if Andrekevicius is good enough to help the Cavs this year, but I would rather him spend this season in the DL than sit at the end of the bench and not see any action.
