CB/WR Chris Gamble (All B1G, All-American, National Champion)

Mili,

It was $250, but whatever if you say it was $200 I won't spend any time arguing with you. I'm the one that made the bet, I think I would know what I made it for. I remember specifically because I lost $500 on the OSU-Michigan game and I decided to bet you exactly half of that. So I guess we both have our ways of specifically remembering without having the proof in writing.

Regardless I'll send you my address.

Di-Hard, pretty funny about the Jehova's witnesses.

Speaking of the Tinman Triathlon, I ran it yesterday and finished it in 3:13 (by my watch). It took me 3:37 last year.

1. The swim portion pissed me off. As a weak swimmer, I had been practicing fairly hard to get to the point where I got my breathing down well enough to go 100 or so yards before having to roll over to floating on my back to rest a bit and then resume. In fact, I felt comfortable enough after having two good practices earlier that I may even be able to do the entire race free-style without having to resort to taking any mid-race rest or having to change to the breaststroke like I did last year. Well, the sea gods decided they wanted to pacify the surfers and sent in a pretty big swell for the weekend. So despite the shore having reef about 100 or so yards out, the water was swelling pretty good (I'm guessing about 4-6 feet) along with the surface being very choppy, making it difficult even for strong swimmers. So, all my practices in the pool and the near-flat sea conditions up until then went down the toilet. I did finish the swim course, and with less effort than I thought I would, but I still had to resort to the breaststroke which made me take almost 31 minutes for the swim leg.

2. The bike was the only real strong leg of the three for me. They shortened the bike lag by about a mile and a half because of having to move the starting point due to a mayoral function, so the course was around 23 miles instead of just short of 25 miles. I finished it in 1:13, which came out to around a 19 MPH average, about 3 MPH faster than last year.

3. Counting the transition times (swim-to-bike and bike-to-run), when I came out of the transition area to start my run, my race time was at 1:47, which gave me 1:12 to do the 6-mile run in order to break 3 hours (and I had done the run in 1:04 and 1:08 the last two times I had run the full course in practice). Well, about a mile or so into the run and about a third of the way up a 0.8 long hill, the lower portion of my left quad just frickin' cramped up instantly (exactly the same thing happened to me last year at almost the same spot of the course). I walked it off for a couple hundred yards, and when I resumed running (still going uphill) it locked again after only a minute or so. This shit happened the rest of the course except on the the downhill portions. That, coupled with the fact that the weather gods decided to totally shut down the tradewinds so that the temp was already in the mid-80s with high humidity with no tradewinds to offset the humidity, I was toast. I ended up alternating walking and jogging the rest of the course and taking about 1:26 minutes. I frickin' hate cramps.

Well at least I have the 3-hour barrier as a target for next year (again). They did have a free massage tent at the finish.

Brutus1: "Mili,
Fitch could certainly use your services now, especially after that 'move' to the Federal League last season."

Who all is in that league? I followed Fitch a little last year and they seemed to be doing decent for a while...weren't they ranked #3 or #4 in their region for a couple weeks? I can't believe they got rid of the SVC...

Mili,
Besides Fitch, the other teams are; Boardman, North Canton Hoover, Uniontown Lake, Massillon Perry, Massillon Jackson, GlenOak (Hartlines),
and Canton McKinley. A pretty good league, but no SVC.

:oh: :io:

WTF kind of league is that?! Teams scattered all over NE Ohio! At least all the SVC teams were close by, essentially bordering each other...never more than a half-hour away from each other.

The day prior, I had oatmeal and half a banana for breakfast, lasagna for a late lunch, and a bowl of mixed fruit (raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries) for supper, and hit the sack at 9:00 p.m. Got up at 3:00 a.m. and had half a banana with a large glass of water for breakfast, and had a grain bar at 4:30 a.m. as a pre-race snack (the start time for my group was 5:50 a.m.). In talking to the my trainers afterwards, they seem to think I pushed it a bit too hard on the bike leg. There were several others in our group that got leg cramps also, and they didn't get cramps during any of our training sessions. I'm guessing it was the combination of the race itself and the unusually hot and humid conditions. I felt I was well-hydrated before and during the race (had a 20-ounce bottle of electrolyte drink and another bottle of water before the race, and during the bike portion I had a bottle and a half of Amino-Vital drink, along with some more Amino-Vital during the bike/run transition and drinks at each of the three aid stations along the way during the run). Not sure what more I could've done in that regard.

I imagine, at some point, if not already, that Fitch and Boardman will regret that move. It's not so bad when you have to travel to Stark county 3 games a year during football season, but when your winter sports programs have to make that trip multiple times a week then you have to ask yourself " wtf were we thinking?"

Maybe when the Youngstown city schools consolidate, they'll come back and join the proposed Super Conference.
