CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

Has it been nailed down when Emilien and Berry would visit. I checked the visitor thread and saw nothing on them, but I just wanted to make sure in case no one got around to updating it yet or if their planned date hasn't been finalized yet.

Not sure if the Visitor thread includes camps or not..

No finalized date yet. We update the "visitor" thread frequently, often several times a day.

Here is a list of guys visiting in the next week or so...

RB Carlos Hyde (Naples, Florida)
WR Duron Carter (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida)
OL Marcus Hall (Cleveland Glenville)
OL Chris Watt (Glen Ellyn, Illinois)
OL John Martinez (Salt Lake City, Utah)
DE Jonathan Newsome (Cleveland Glenville)
LB Dorian Bell (Monroeville, Pennsylvania) - committed
DB Dominic Clarke (Frederick, Maryland) - committed
DB Corey Brown (Monroeville, Pennsylvania)
DB Bradley McDougald (Dublin Scioto)
DB Stephon Gilmore (Rock Hill, South Carolina)
ATH E.J. Banks (McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania)
ATH Justin Green (Louisville, Kentucky)

I think that we land Hyde, Carter, Brown, and one of McDougald/Green...Heck maybe both of them...Not sure, but we will know soon enough...

We should have a great idea of what the class is going to look like after next weekend and early in the week after that...

Camp is going to be huge for recruiting...

I think we could also close the deal on Watt, but don't think he will end it quite yet..

Hall and Newsome will probably be there recruiting some...

Gotta like the fact that Bell is coming with Brown, and Clarke will also be there...

Yea, this could be the biggest weekend yet, anything could happen. I would even watch out for Banks, too.

Middle of June, time for my updtated list:

Still see the class at 27 or 28 (with the chance to perhaps sneak in one or two more somehow). So with that said...

QB: Not going to happen this year. There are just too many other spots to fill with prospects that we are in good shape for. With Joe B. coming on strong this spring, the staff is comfortable with what they have for next year, and will look to bring in another stud QB next year.

FB: Same ol' same ol'. Homan and/or Boren are in and will get shots here. Both could move to different spots in the future (LB,DL), but one will stay.

RB: The staff wants two RB's his year, and every sign points to the same two. Hyde will be here this week, and most fully expect him to leave Ohio a Buckeye. Likewise, Berry will be here with his mother this summer and we could very well see some more good news.

TE: The buzz is that Ohio State is alos looking at bringing in two TE's this year. Fragel is in, and will get his first look at TE. OT could be in his future, but for now he is our "blocking TE". Word is tha the staff is looking to bring in a "field stretching TE" as well. Sims would be a solid fit here, but the basketball route at Michigan State is looking more and more likely. I'm sticking with Hageman here. Minnesota and Wisconsin will be a challenge, but I have heard some positive things about him. If he chooses to go elsewhere, this spot could easily go to another position. For now though, i'm sticking with a 2nd TE.

OL: Mewhort and Linsley are in. Watt will be here next week with his family, and there is a lot of smoke around a choice being made soon after. No reason not to believe the smoke with the latest news leaking out. Marcus Hall will take his time like all the Glenville kids do. Don't look for a repeat of Scott. Martinez will make a visit next week but that's about all I see coming of it, as USC has a big lead. Another great OL class.

WR: Two guys with great speed in Fields and Jackson are in. Duron Carter will be at camp next week, and once again...all signs point to him leaving a Buckeye. The staff has several other offers out, but nothing looks too promising. That said, anything can happen on visits. Keep in mind that some of the guys being brought in at DB or ATH could end up on this side of the ball as well (see Ted Ginn and Anthony Gonzalez).

DE: Fellows is in. Newsome has an offer, and will be in sometime later in the year. Muldoon or Ezell could end up at DE as well. The staff likes both, but the numbers are getting tight. First come, first served IMO.

DT: Simon and Bellamy are in. Muldoon could slide down to DT (again, if he makes it in). Adams has genuine interest in Ohio State, but USC and his friends out west are going to present stiff competition. In the end, it's not hard to see him staying out west.

LB: Bell, Whiting, and Klein are in. Nothing else to see here, GREAT LB class.

CB: Barnett and Clarke are in. Brown and McDougald will be here next week, and signs point to one, if not both, leaving camp as Buckeyes. Can't disagree with that statement one bit. McGee, who once looked like a big Buckeye lean, is now taking a hard look around. While many Buckeye fans are telling "jump", don't be so fast to do so. Ohio State is still at the top, and adding several of his friends over the next few months will only help our chances.

S: Wood is in. Emilien will visit later this summer again with Berry and their mothers. Vlad could be a Buckeye at anytime throughout the summer, into his senior year. It's going to take A LOT for anyone to overtake Ohio State for Emilien.

ATH: Hall is in, and the staff will look to use him as a RB/WR. Green will be at camp next week, and once again...signs point to him following in the family footsteps and giving the Buckeye his pledge.

So the class looks something like:

QB: None
RB: Hyde, Berry
FB: Boren, Homan
TE: Fragel, Hageman
OL: Mewhort, Linsley, Watt, Hall
WR: Fields, Jackson, Carter
DE: Fellows, Newsome
DT: Simon, Bellamy
LB: Bell, Whiting, Klein
CB: Barnett, Clarke, Brown, McDougald
S: Wood, Emilien
ATH: Hall, Green

It's a year like no other..and with spots so tight, things could change at the drop of a hat. In line for the "plus one" spot are Muldoon, Ezell, Adams and McGee. Stay tuned...

Agree with all of that besides I'm sticking with my gut on landing Adams. Also, I really hope we find room for E.J. Banks in this class...he is such a great athlete and I could easily see him playing slot, as well as safety. Our best shot at WR is DeBose imo, after we clean up in Florida. Great breakdown as normal though Mic.

OK, with 22 available schollies, how are we going to fit in 4-5 extras? First, we can only sign 25 for the 2009 class, so who are the 2-3 early enrollees? Oh yeah, and there's Dawaan Whitner who, according to him, will get a 2009 schollie after Columbus prep school. If Clifford transfers per the rumor, that would basically account for Whitner's schollie, so now we're back to 4-5 extras with 2-3 being early enrollees. You see 4-5 early departees/transfers, in addition to Clifford? Who are the 2-3 early enrollees? Actually, since we took only 20 commits last year, we could slide in up to five early enrollees...

We have alot of juniors that could leave early. I think the coaches know the players intentions. I'm sure Tressel talks to all the players that could leave early so they can recruit accordingly. I don't think it is coincidence that the coaches have ALOT OF OFFERS OUT THERE RIGHT NOW. The class will be 25. I don't think Tressel has all these offers just to have a first come first serve recruiting strategy. I think there are alot of spots he knows will be open.

If the rumor about Clifford is true there could be 10 DB's gone after the next two seasons. Washington, Russell, Patterson, Jenkins, Lane, Coleman, O'neal, Amos, Clifford, and Chekwa could all be gone after 2009. Thats not including others that may transfer or have other issues.

Hartline and Small with a great showing in 2009 could be gone. Beanie is a top 5 pick and will be gone.

There is no way Tressel has all these offers out and has 22 spots...no way

Gotta throw Wilson into the possible early departure discussion.

I just think 28 is too high with the conservative JT at the helm. I'm more comfortable projecting a 26 man class.

I'll say the class is what HotMic projected except that I don't think we'll get Hageman and I think that when Vlad commits McDougald will be left out in the numbers crunch.
