CBF40's Look at '10 recruiting

Did you have any idea when he would have shown up on Coop's radar? Grove City in those days was a powerhouse program right?

The end of his Junior year I would never had predicted him as a serious D1 recruit. He had speed, but was thin, couldn't break a tackle and would put the ball on the ground.

His senior year he came back bigger and much harder to bring down.

Craft's love, basketball

Aaron Craft is embarking on a journey that few high school athletes have the chance to experience. It's because the Liberty-Benton junior is a hot commodity.Craft is being recruited to take his basketball prowess to the NCAA Division I level. But the journey doesn't start, or end, there. He is also catching the eye of Division I football coaches."Right now it's just basketball (teams that are recruiting me). I have heard that football is about a (school) year behind basketball," Craft said between two-a-day football practices on Wednesday. "Basketball is able to be ahead (of football) in terms of recruiting because of AAU basketball."Craft, last year's Blanchard Valley Conference football offensive player of the year and basketball player of the year, will also be courted by football schools after drawing coaches' attentions over the summer at football camps."I've had a couple of people tell me, I'll probably get more looks in football than basketball."But basketball is Craft's love and he said that Bowling Green, Miami of Ohio and Dayton have offered him scholarships. In addition, the University of Tennessee contacted him this past Sunday to tender a basketball scholarship. That offer came after coach Bruce Pearl watched Craft help his AAU team, All-Ohio Red U-16, win the national AAU tournament in Orlando, Fla. last week."For some reason, I enjoy basketball much more than football," Craft said. "If I had a choice to go to basketball or football practice, I'd rather go in the gym, put on the sneakers and shoot around."I've also played basketball longer, which helps because I'm more comfortable with it."Craft seems comfortable both on the gridiron and the court. He has started at point guard and quarterback his first two high school years. During his freshman season, the Eagles reached the Division V state football semifinals and were state runners-up in Division III basketball.Last football season, Craft completed 177 of 260 passes for 2,276 yards, 25 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He also ran 170 times for 1,365 yards and 16 scores. On the hardwood, he scored 18.3 points per game and handed out nearly 5 assists."During the winter, spring and summer, I spend most of my time on basketball and improve my skills there," Craft said. "During football, I concentrate on it."Football keeps me active, keeps me in shape and helps my toughness tremendously."I really enjoy it."Craft knows that he'll have a big decision someday, although it is fairly obvious basketball will be his choice. When the decision is made, a lot of weight will be lifted from his shoulders."I sat with my parents the other day and we talked about it," Craft said."If my gut tells me someplace is right, I could have a decision by this fall. But if I don't (have a decision) I won't rush it."I have two years that I can ride it out."Craft isn't the only BVC quarterback drawing looks this fall.McComb's Kevan Westenbarger said he has attended one-day camps at a number of schools and is being recruited by MAC schools in addition to smaller programs.Westenbarger has been graded out by ESPN.com at 75, based on a scale of 100, which is a point higher than Ada's Zac Dysert. Dysert is currently on a football scholarship at Miami of Ohio.

Had a little time today so I figured I would update this thread, as I was falling behind here and little bit and we have already received our first commit and have sent out a handful of offers...

Early on it seems like we are in for another very high quality class next year...I think the number will be around 20 or so...With the big class this year, there are going to be some guys that will see the writing on the wall and transfer, and some guys seem to keep flirting with danger, but I would think the number would be around 16 or so if everyone were to stick around...

QB - Still not sure on the number here, thinking 1 maybe 2...

Dwight Macon - Really not sure what to make of this situation yet...I think he could be tOSU worthy...Think they might like to take a strong look at his junior season and maybe at camp next year...Think right now he is behind Gardner and Bolden.

Devin Gardner - He seemed to be the top guy on the board, but his lack of throwing ability might hurt that in terms of first QB offered...He is very raw, not great with his mechanics, but he has the potential, and can really make plays with his legs...Probably a top 10-15 QB in the country next year...And we lead so that is a good thing...

Robert Bolden - From what I have heard he might be the first QB to get an offer...I would say he goes to Michigan if they offer...He and Gardner are 1-2 in the state of michigan for next year and both have big time talent...

Derek Roback - I really liked what I saw out of him at the scout combine in Cincy...With the above three it might be hard for him to get a long look tho...He is in the picture for now tho...

RB - I am going with 2 if they are the right ones...Lots of top end talent in the midwest with Ware, Howard, Brown, and Smith...

Spencer Ware - Already received an offer..I believe he is a top 10 player in the country...He is just an athlete, he could play anywhere on the field, but I think you get him the ball at the tailback position...Right now tho I have heard that the early leader could be Tennessee...I really hope that Tress can work his recruiting magic on Spencer...After watching Ware on Thursday he is the real deal and will make guys miss and wont go down on first contact.

Corey Brown - He was an early offer...Has a ton of talent, great in and out of cuts, makes guys miss with ease, breaks tackles...I think that he could be a guy we could use in the Ted Ginn role, as long as getting him the ball in the backfield, doesn't have the ideal size to be an everydown guy in the big ten, but he is a punt returner, kick returner, and could get deep against safeties and lb's...Not really sure where we stand, we are in the game, but this will be a tough one...Right now I think that Rutgers is in a good spot with his teammate Tom Savage a commit for this season...

Eric Howard - Still seeing how this develops, but right now the situation seems to have taken a turn for the better as he had moved to Seattle but is now back and seems to be on the right path...He has a lot of talent, maybe a little bit of a waiting period to see about Brown and Ware, and what their intentions might be, but he is a top 100 player if everything is squared away in terms of discipline and grades...

Roderick Smith - From Indiana, could be the top prospect in the state...He has put up some very big numbers, and was invited to a junior day here last year...Gotta think there is some interest in him if that is the case...

Alan Jones - He will split time with Derell Mason at tailback at Ursuline, but he has the potential to come in third in the running back race in Ohio...Will that be enough to warrant an offer? I have no idea, but he looks very solid on film and always seems to put up some big numbers...

FB - After taking one in 08 and two guys that could play there in 09 I say we don't take one in '10...

TE - If we take 2 this year then I would say we only take 1, if we only take 1 we might take 2...It will also probably depend on the prospects that pop up...

CJ Fiedorowicz - He is probably the top TE in region next year...He is 6'7 240 and has the athleticism of a WR...Notre Dame has already offered him and is on many watch list for the region next year...He is getting interest from us already...

Alex Smith - Jordan Hicks is not the only top talent at Lakota West...Smith has great size at 6'5 for a TE, and he showed great ability to go get the ball in their first game...Already has an offer from Cincy, and I think this is one to watch for sure...

Dan Schneider - Another guy from Ohio on the watch list...

WR - With the number we took this year either 3 or 4 however you look at it I will say 2 would be max after taking 3 the year before...

Terrnance Casper - From New Jersey...Won an MVP at a camp...Has great size at 6'5''...Has been in contact with the staff...We are in his initial top 5...

Jerald Robinson - Really like this kid...At this point I would have him at #1 WR in the state for 2010...He is really fluid in his movement...Runs good routes...look for him to have a big season next year at Canton South...Already hearing from the staff...Solid grades with a 3.2...6'2'' frame at 175 with lots of room to grow...

D.J. Williamson - A kid with a ton of potential...Has great size, and great speed...10.82 100 as a sophomore...Also built pretty well...Goes up and gets the ball well...Could be a CB type as well...So far so good this fall, and his limited film shows his speed and athleticism...

Anthony Schrock - He shows good speed, has great hip turn and agility which is shown by his very good ability in the hurdles during track season, he will go up and get the ball as well...The staff has been in contact and will be interesting to see which direction they go in...

OL - After taking 3 last year and going to be 4 this year with a side of Justin Boren, I would say 2 would be ok, but with the talent that we will be in on and in-state you gotta strike while the iron is hot and I will say 3 maybe 4 if the right guys want to come...Will be interesting to see who gets offers...I will say Henderson, James, and Norwell get early offers...But Miller is no slouch and the other guys Hodgepodge really likes and I am yet to see anything on them...

Matt James - Top lineman in the state IMO...Very impressive on film...Plays against great talent and still dominates, he has good size, good drive, good footwork...He is what you look for in a LT prospect...He received his offer and it seems like we are in solid position here, but UT and Notre Dame will be stiff competition...

Seantrel Henderson - Top 5 player in the country...Comparisons to O Pace...We are in the race, but it is going to be tough going up against Notre Dame and Minnesota, and probably some other schools sprinkled in...He has a written offer now...

Andrew Norwell - This is Wade's guy...He is up there for top 5 in the state, still have James as the top lineman, but Norwell is very talented, and I am hoping that there will be an offer sometime soon...

Taylor Miller - Another guy that will throw his name in the ring with James and Norwell for offers in state next year...Like his film, the staff has been in contact and have told him to watch his weight a little...I wonder if he couldn't move to the other side of the ball...

Chad Linslay - He is a national guy that might be worth keeping an eye on, but right now there is a ton of talent on the board, and other than Henderson I don't think we will leave the state...

Isaiah Byler from Elyria, Skyler Schoffner from Washington Court House, and Josh Davis From Plain City Jonathan Alder are guys on Hodgepodge watch list as other guys to look out for...Looks like another solid year in-state for OL...

DE - I am going to say 3...Just too much talent here not to take that many...We have offers to 2 guys already in Baldwin and Moore and Moore is already in the fray...I think Turner(OLB?), Bryant, Pleasent, Gholston, Brown and maybe Elliot and Gibson are guys that could play here...So it will be interesting to see how they can get these guys in the class...

Derrick Bryant - A quick DE with a good frame...I have him as a top 10 talent in the state and could be an early offer candidate...He looks great on film as well...Coming off the edge...has the speed to run guys down from the backside...Just hope that his grades stay good as he is going to the CPS system and that always scares me a little bit with recruits...Still see him as getting an offer soon...

Darryl Baldwin - A big DE with a great frame...Already about 6'6'' 240...Will grow into his frame very nicely...Really like his potential...Well he received and early offer, not sure on timetable but I do believe that he will end up a buckeye...Could be a guy that outgrows DE...

William Gholston - Big Vern's cousin...Showed well at the camps that he attended and we are the early favorite...Has a lot of room to grow into his 6'7'' frame as well...He has some early offers from the likes of MSU, it will be interesting to see what direction we go here...

J.T. Moore - I said earlier that I saw him as a DE, but had him listed with the DT as that might be his best opportunity, but he really impressed the staff and got an early offer at DE and accepted...He has a ton of talent and I really like his film...

Grant Pleasant - Attended the first game of the season...Playing DT for Scioto, but being recruited as a DE/OLB...He is listed at 230 so I would say that DE is the ideal position for him at the next level...

Anthony Gibson - Has solid size and runs the 100 in 10.7...If he can add weight to his frame, and have DE size he could be a terror coming off the end with that size...

O'Neal Brown - He is another that has a good frame, but needs quite a bit of polish...Will be interesting to see how he performs this fall at Harding...Most places around are putting him in the top 10 based on potential, Should be interesting, but with an offere to Baldwin, and Moore already in the fold it will be interesting to see where the staff goes next...

Jayrone Elliot - DE from Glenville and has been pretty impressive early in the season, DE seems loaded in state next year and with offers already out to a couple and a couple more could come we will see how this develops...

DT - probably 1 or 2 here...Would love to land a big timer here from out of state...a top 50 type kid...Doesn't look like there will be any in state, or at least none have emerged yet...Still not sure, the staff told Moore he was DE, so I moved him from the list...A guy like baldwin could grow into a DT and maybe a guy like Bryant, Pleasent, Gholston or someone else, but right now there isn't a guy that you look at and say he is a DT prospect...

LB - I will say 3...I don't think that we need 3 but with Turner and Hicks as Outside guys in-state, and then Rosenbauer, Snow, Galvin, etc., and that is before we even begin to look outside the state at all, I think we might take 3...2 would be the ideal number following the past 2 classes tho...

Jamel Turner - He and Ware will be a battle for top player in the state next year IMHO...I have moved Turner to the LB list, because I am just not sure if he has the frame to be a full time DE...He might follow the Thad Gibson path and be a rush end, but stick more at OLB...Either way this kid a freak athletically and some places will have him in top 20 players in the country...Will be interesting to see how Ursuline uses him this year and see how he performs...

Jordan Hicks - He received an offer, He is a top 5 kid in the state, a playmaker at LB and will be a top 50 national top player...We are in the game here, probably have a battle on our hands, but I think we hold a very good shot here...

Zac Rosenbauer - Another one that I really like...Right now I think that Zac will be looking at Mike LB in college, but there is a possiblity of him moving to DE depending on how he grows...He led his league in tackles as sophomore this past season and that is no easy feat for the league...He reads very well, and when he hits you, you go down...Also there has been some contact between he and the staff...Has a collarbone injury so has not played much this season if at all...

Jewone Snow - Not sure where he is leaning...Has family ties to Michigan and MSU...I see him as a big time player at the next level...Was injured all last year, so some schools might be waiting to see how he performs this year, but the kid has lots of talent...Don't see it ending well for the us tho if we were to offer...

Nick Galvin - Another OLB, in the mold of Tyler Moeller...Will be interesting to see how he performs this year...He is on the outside looking in right now I think, but he will make someone very happy...Kid is a player...

Scott McVey - A kid that Hodgepodge keeps talking about...From what I have read and heard this kid is going to really blow up...He is a smaller LB, but we seem to be looking at thos types so maybe an offer to go to one of Galvin or McVey...

Preston Brown - Not much out there, but he had some solid offers and already verballed to Cincy, not sure if we are even thinking offer here, but he is a guy from Ohio, and it is still early...

CB - Not sure on how many here...Probably 2

Terrance Talbott - I really like Terrance...Saw him live at the combine in cincy...He is a very fluid athlete...He looked good in the opening game of the season against Wayne...He looks bigger than the 5'9'' he is listed as...

Dior Mathis - Probably a Michigan kid, but this is one to keep an eye on...He is going to be a good one...Kinda small in stature at about 5'9-5'10 but it is still early, but this kid can cover...Will probably be a top 100 kid...

Christian Bryant - He is one to keep an eye on...From Glenville, had a great shwoing earlier this year at a combine...Will be interesting to see him perform this year on the field...Right now I would have him as the top prospect from Glenville for this class...

Deandre Harris - Another name that is out there at this early stage...From Ursuline, other than that I really don't know much...Has pretty good size going into his junior season...Also is cousins with Shaun Lane...

Andre Givens - One of my favorites in-state next year...He is a very good athlete, could be a CB/S/RB/WR at the next level...He runs very well, very fluid in his movements...

Terrell Givens - FL CB, said to be one of the best in South Florida, is receiving early interest from us...

S - After this year, I will say 1 or 2...But once again looking like lots of talent on the board to only take 1...And we know how Tress loves he his safeties...

Marvin Robinson - This looks like a Michigan/tOSU/USC battle...He is a top 10 talent...Looks like a freak at only 15...He could outgrow this position and grow into an OLB...We will hear alot about him as Michigan fans all think he is a lock...There are some Ohio state love on his staff, and some Michigan on the staff as well...This one is going to be fun...Would love to land him tho...Looking more and more like Michigan here...

Mike Dorsey - He looks very good on film...Ranked in the top 100 player fvsports list...He will be moved to RB this year, but I think his eventual position in college is S...Think he will push for top 5 in state next year, he is that good, and think that he is the top safety in state and I see an offer sometime in the near future...

Courtney Avery - He is a good looking athlete...Getting some early love in recruiting circles...I believe he might have an Illinois offer already...He had a big camp at tOSU as well from what I heard...

Braylon Heard, Ray Vinopal, Daniel Lambardo, Cameron Ontko are some others to watch in-state...

K/P - I would say we look to take 1 for sure...With only having Buchanan as the only underclassmen once AP and RP graduate...

Brad Potter - One of our very own posters...Lets hope that he can get an offer and become a buckeye...

Best guess - It is very early for this, right now there are only a handful of guys that actually have offers, not sure on numbers, and who we are favorites for etc, but I am going to throw this out there as a starting point...

QB - Bolden/Gardner (right now I think Bolden could be higher on the board)
RB - Ware
RB - Howard/Brown
WR -Robinson
WR -Williamson/Schrock
TE - Smith
OL - James
OL - Norwell
OL - Miller
DE - Moore
DE - Baldwin
DE - Bryant
DT - Gholston
OLB - Turner
OLB - Hicks
LB - Rosenbauer/McVey/Galvin/Snow
CB - Talbott
CB - Bryant
S - Andre Givens
S - Dorsey
P/K - ?

That gives us 22 without any national guys on the list all guys being from Ohio, other than Gholston and Brown...It is hard to see who we go after nationally, and also who in-state get offers, but we seem to have a ton of talent in-state and won't really have to leave the state to land a great class...

Michigan has some top tier guys that we may send offers to like Austin White and James Jackson, but White has pull to MSU with his two older brothers playing there and Jackson's dad is the RB's coach at UM so I didn't put them on the list, but those are two that could pick up offers to gage their interest, along with Mike Hull from PA, but he has heavy pull to PSU...

Hope you guys enjoy and throw some other names out there that I might of missed and some national guys if there are some...

Good stuff CB40. Some Ohio sleepers (i.e., guys that aren't on your list) include:

Tyrone Williams, a 6-4 210 WR from E. Cleveland Shaw. In the first three weeks of the season, he has 6 TDs already on a run-oriented team. Gotta love the size as well.

Ben Buzzelli, a 6-5 310 OT from Wadsworth. He operates in a balanced attack, so he knows how to pass and run block equally well. He is also one of the better heavyweight wrestlers in the state.

Ryan Barber, a 6-0 170 WR/CB from Westervile South. He plays on an unusually bad South team whose QB isn't a great passer, but he's one of the fastest kids in the state, putting up sub 10.8 forty times since he was a freshman.

I'd be pretty surprised if these three aren't scouted heavily by OSU.

+10 Would love to have one of BPs finest in S&G.

Staff better get in on this one quick. Word on the street is the Zook is all over him.

Are there not any guys from PA or FL showing us love this year? I was hoping to go 3 for 3 in taking the top player from PA again, and pissing off the colleges in FL by taking their top players. since according to them OH doesnt have much speed!

Well obviously it is still very early in the process...We have an offer out to Corey Brown who could be the top player in PA, but it could also be Mike Hull and as I posted he is a PSU guy...

Also we have an offer out to Marvin Robinson and interest in Terrance Williams...

Still early tho...

I saw Erick Howard play last nite and was he amazing. He had 23 carries for 225 and 3 catches for 100 3tds. 60yd reggie bush style screen pass. One of his long gains he stiffed armed a DB and completely took off his helmet. If he gets his together, wow

40 how soon do you think you offer Bolden??

I have thought for a while he is better than Gardner.

I know we look good for the two guys that you like in the state. Some feel Gholston may be our first 2010 commit and Bolden we are high on as well.

Hopefully we can keep you guys out of Michigan unlike this year.
