CBF40's look at '13 recruiting

Now that recruiting is picking up again...

1
QB: Barrett

With Barker, Henderson, Crest and Kizer in 2014, I think we are done here despite originally thinking about adding two.

2
RB: Elliott
RB: Derrick Green/David Williams

The staff still look like they are pursuing another RB in this class. Green or Williams seem like the top candidates... for now at least.

2-3
WR: Jalin Marshall
WR: Shelton Gibson/Robert Foster/Devon Allen/James Quick/Demorea Stringfellow

I really have no clue who they might add at WR right now. Gibson is the easy answer if his grades are in good order. I would guess they might consider adding a third if there is room.

1
TE: Marcus Baugh

Already offers out to a handful of 2014 TEs, done for 2013.

2-3
OL: Evan Lisle
OL: Tackle (Dennis Finley?), Guard (Kaliel Rodgers/Donovan Munger?)

My assumption has been that we would add two additional offensive linemen, one tackle and one guard, but is there still room in the class to do that?

4
DL: Billy Price
DL: Tracy Sprinkle
DL: Joey Bosa
DL: Michael Hill

Amazing haul and stacked with 2011 it is crazy how much talent should be here in the coming years. Definitely done for 2013.

1-2
LB: Darron Lee
LB: Tyquan Lewis?

It seems like the staff wanted to take two here, but there really aren't that many players on the board right now. With so many in 2011, this seems like an easy place to cut back to make room elsewhere if that is needed.

4-5
CB/S: Cameron Burrows
CB: Eli Woodard
S: Jayme Thompson
S: Vonn Bell
CB: Adrian Baker?

Adding Bell and Baker would be an amazing finish, but I don't know if there is room for both. We'll see if Baker gets an offer or not... it might be contingent on what Bell does.

1
P: Johnny Townsend

Most important play in football should be in good hands.

My minimum projection would be a class of 18, the high projection is 22. What is the limit in the class? I honestly have no idea.

Baker's offer would be for WR.

Given all of the WRs still on the board that we seemingly have at least a decent shot at, it seems unlikely/unnecessary to throw out another offer there.

That, of course, can change quickly.

My personal preference (which obviously doesn't mean much) would be to see another true CB in the class, so adding Baker there would be preferable to me.

If he has the hands, I'd be all for him at WR. They watched him work up close, so if they like him, I'll take him.

I think it's time to look at Billy Price as an OL. JMO but the Hill commit seems to make that more obvious.

As others have speculated, I bet we see more movement this week based on the potential offer to Baker.

Haven't put together my best guess for the rest of the class in awhile but after the Hill surprise commitment, I feel I can prosper a somewhat educated guess at the rest of the class. With 15 commits, I am going to guess 5-7 more will be in this class. With the maxx number at 22, I'm guessing:

QB: J.T. Barrett

RB: Ezekiel Elliott

RB: Derrick Green- I feel the staff goes after him hard and we were the early favorite, plus Grant will lobby him...keep in mind Green helped recruit Grant to OSU in the first place. He sees how we use bigger backs like Hyde, Smith, and Dunn with Hall out for at least the first two weeks and makes it an easy decision for him.

WR: Jalin Marshall

WR: Robert Foster- He knows what he needs to do for the staff to make him a part of this class and we are the favorite. I think he gets it done and becomes a huge addition to this class.

WR: Devon Allen- Dad was an alumnus and high interest from both sides. I think after a visit here, we jump in front and close, just a gut feeling. This would be the perfect commit with the other 2 WR's I have listed, as Allen would be a perfect #2, with Foster at 1, and Marshall in the slot. Supposed to visit in July, hopefully for FNL, and that visit will go a long way.

TE: Marcus Baugh

OL: Evan Lisle

OL: Dennis Finley- Great looking prospect with tremendous upside. No real solid info other than I like UFM vs. MSU and Illinois.

OL: ?- We are going to need 1 more OL but anyones guess is as good as mine. We may see UFM continue to recruit verbals that we originally targeted, as it appears nobody made big enough impressions at camp to earn an offer. Pointless in guessing right now, as no names other than Meadows and Peterson appear in play. It's always possible to move Price here too for guard and be done with Finley and Lisle at tackle.

DL: Joey Bosa

DL: Tracy Sprinkle

DL: Michael Hill

DL: Billy Price

LB: Darron Lee- I think he ends up here and that is why he got his offer...either star or LB imo.

LB: ? (Anzalone is as good as gone, Neal appears to be an LSU lean, and Lewis looks more like a DE to me. I love Kimbrough but it appears he will not be offered. Unless someone blows up from now until FNL, perhaps we just keep recruiting Jaylon Smith/Mike McCray and try to flip them. Otherwise, I would be ok with the offer going to another position, like WR or OL...afterall, we did take 5 LB's in 2012)

DB: Cameron Burrows

DB: Eli Woodard

DB: Jayme Thompson

DB: Vonn Bell- With Lee projected at Star/LB, I think we want another safety and Bell has us at the top. Incredible athlete and imo, is a sure-fire playmaker and potential early contributor since the only safety we might have taken was Powell last year. UFM is pressing hard and I see Bell as the most likely commit of my predictions, and a great way to round out what would likely be the nation's top DB class.

P: Johnny Townsend

- That would be 21 and seems like a reasonable number at this point. An X factor to me would be Adrian Baker, who I would love to see get an offer if there is room...wouldn't hurt to have another true corner/WR on board with his skillset. David Williams is another name you could potentially insert at RB/WR, but I think Green and a couple other WR's would have to fall through first. Mizzell is another name of interest...though we are in his top 3, he seems to want to stay in-state. I would love to see us push hard though, as he blew up big at the 5 star challenge and showed great ability to catch the ball. You take Mizzell regardless of numbers imo. And finally, Quick is a serious possibility...if Strong leaves, he is ours. If not, we will have a struggle but certainly can pull it off. I really want to see Quick in this class and we will continue to pursue him regardless.

Overall, if we can pick up 1 more quality OT and 2 WR's, this class will be phenomenal. I have no doubt we can accomplish that and we already have a great class in place considering scholarship restrictions.

IMO, if we wanted Green, he would already be in this class. Haven't really heard much from the staff about recruiting Allen. More rumblings from posters than anything. Still think we see one of Foster/Quick and one other offensive playmaker (North/D. Williams/ someone unknown).

As for OL, Finney or some other project OT and move Price to OG.

The contact with Green lulled, but picked back up as of late...but now he is going to look around some. As for Allen, they are trying to get him to visit and recent updates have sounded pretty positive. We'll know more after he visits in July. Agreed on OL, I would be more than fine with a class of Lisle, Finney, and Price. Plus moving Price over leaves another spot for any of WR, LB, or DB.

I thought Foster was out due to his tweets? Has he said that OSU is the favorite?

He is saying the right things. We will see if Meyer believes his attitude change..

Time will tell with Foster. I think the staff will continue to monitor him and if they believe there is a genuine change in perspective, he is in. I really hope there are not major character issues and that his spat of behavior was just an anomaly, because we really could use a talent like Foster in this class at receiver.
