He wasn't being serious....It isn't even debateable. He was acting serious to make it funny. It's his personality. If he said it laughing, maybe it doesn't make sportscenter yesterday.

On the viedeotape of it, he still looks serious, but does have a smile towards the end. But again, as cocky as Chad is, he doesn't believe he can beat Michael Phelps in a race. It was a well delivered joke.

Still disagree. It's a matter of opinion.

Which makes your statement that it isn't debatable a factual error, and that isn't a matter of opinion.

No, it isn't debateable because it was clearly a joke. To think he was being serious is not understnading the joke.

it's how he jokes...such as getting on people for not anwering his questions when he asks them in Spanish. Or telling Shawm Merriman if he got the ball he was going to run him over. All in a very serious way. The joke isn't funny if you know it's a joke.

It's really not funny either way. Chad's shtick is completely played out.

FWIW, it's NOT clearly a joke. For that matter, it's debatable as to what is really a joke at this point, Chad Johnson, or his recent comments. Beyond this, if he WAS joking, why did he need to throw in the stale reference to folks in his area not getting a chance?

I agree, he's acting serious but it's clearly a joke. He did this a few weeks ago when he said he was going to fight Carson Palmer and the reporters starting laughing and he said "why are you laughing, I'm serious", it looks like that's his new thing for this year.

Exactly. Watched the clip obviously he was joking, as he also told the guys from PTI not to talk about him or he would come beat them up. At this point people are going to beleive what they want to about Chad no matter what he says or does or how he does it.

ESPN - Bengals wide receiver changes last name to Ocho Cinco - NFL

CINCINNATI -- Maybe receiver Chad Johnson can go by the name that his head coach hates.

Johnson

The Cincinnati Bengals receiver has legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco in Broward County, Fla., a switch that became official this week. Johnson, who lives in Miami, didn't return a message left on his cell phone Friday night.

"It's something I don't think anyone has ever done before," he told the team's Web site. "Have I ever had a reason for why I do what I do? I'm having fun."
