I hope he realizes that the only way Ohio State ever really compete is with Ohio players...we simply do not "work" as a national program in basketball. A few recruits from around, yes, but Ohio is the bread and butter if the Bucks are ever any good. I don't know, maybe he can change that somewhat, but I doubt it.

The pauses, the precision in the answers, even the body language was very reminiscent of Tressel. I'm guessing he'll be a bit more direct and undress less challengers than Tressel did.

Two-Minute Drill: Chris Holtmann's Introductory Press Conference

Ohio State officially introduced Chris Holtmann as its new head men's basketball coach on Monday. Holtmann and OSU athletics director Gene Smith spoke with the media and answered plenty of questions about the future of Buckeye basketball. Here are the highlights.

+ He thanked president Drake and Gene Smith for their faith and trust in him. Smith was persistent and aggressive in his approach.

+ There is work ahead of the team, but the combination of the education and the athletic department and this basketball program, with this location and the state of Ohio, as well as a passionate fan base, this entire combination "was simply too hard to pass up."

+ The current players were in attendance as well.

+ Holtmann came over on Friday to speak with the team and spend some time with them. "I was really, really impressed."

+ Holtmann thanked his college coach Paul Patterson, as well as John Groce, Brad Stevens, Brandon Miller, and athletic directors like Butler's Barry Collier. "It was a really, really special last three years."

+ "I also want to thank Coach Matta." Thad is a friend and it speaks to his character that the helped in this process. It was important that he had Matta's blessing. Matta went above and beyond in helping Holtmann come to Ohio State.

+ I can assure you that you will be proud of your young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 167 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on the football field.

sounds like butler is going with lavall jordan (milwaukee coach; butler grad; ex-ttun asst.). if so, indications are that holt will retain pedon and johnson, with schrage already being on board. a wholesale change should make it harder for butler to retain, say, young if he wants out and they release him.

i really, really hope we get young. he just has it. as an undersized hybrid power forward, he is outstanding for the college game. tate, kbd, and young on the court at the same time could do some damage. potter, kaleb, and funderburk each have perimeter-to-post games as the possible 5, so one of those guys with the three aforementioned wings could be dynamic on offense. defense would likely have to be zone, though. holt has run zone at butler and enjoyed the flexibility of going between both defensive sets.

Based on Butler's past history of promotions I kind of thought Terry Johnson who had been an assistant at Butler for 11 seasons was destined for the job. Anyway their loss could be our gain.

Terry Johnson enters his 11th season as an assistant coach at Butler. He is in his 13th total season on the Butler sidelines having also filled an administrative role for two seasons early in his coaching career.

Johnson is involved in all parts of the program, while also serving as the team's defensive coordinator.
