Surprisingly there's not much excitement over Fickell down here, there seems to be a tone of wanting Kerry Coombs back(at least the radio talk seems that way)

I would take Uncle Rico. If we get him as head coach, we'll be national champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind.

That's the problem. I'd want him to do well and establish himself as Urban's heir in waiting. For that to happen, however, he'd have to make the juggalos successful to a degree that they would become absolutely fucking insufferable. I hope Fickell goes somewhere else to be honest. Let Ohio's BCS School burn in the fires of irrelevance.

I just don't see OSU ever hiring a head coach directly from UC. If OSU is your ultimate goal, I think its better to make your bones someplace further away, like Houston. My gut feeling is that there is still too much baggage between OSU and UC left over from the Jim Rhodes every school for themselves era.

If Fickell & Schiano were to leave for head coaching opportunities, we could very well see Combs as at least a co-DC next year. Agree, not sure how much sense it would be for Combs to leave and be a DC and Cincy...

There is no guarantee that he would be the next DC at Ohio State. I am sure if he were offered the position he would take it.

He is from Cincinnati. He coached at UC as well as High School power Colerain where he won a state title. The only thing holding him back would be the salary. He is making around $500,000 with bonuses. The current UC DC, Robert Prunty, is making around 340,000. I don't see UC matching that up for Combs. But then again, if he thinks the DC at UC would be a stepping stone for him moving on to DC at a larger university, he might consider it.

Combs was brought to the staff to provide a connection to the SW Ohio recruiting fields. He knows, and gets along with the coaches from Dayton to the river and helps keep ND and Michigan from poaching - but coordinator? I don't think so and I don't think he thinks so.

Also Tressel, Heacock, Cooper... He has had some great mentors who are all still pretty nearby.
