Cincinnati Bearcats (Juggalos official thread of Faygo)

The juggalos are a weird, weird fanbase. First, they shit themselves with fear for a week that Fickell is going to WVU. Now, they're getting into this strange pissing match with WVU fans because they have some need to believe that Fickell was, all evidence to the contrary, WVU's first choice and turned them down. And I've never seen another mid-major fanbase that so actively hates and loathes its former coaches even when they're the ones that brought it the only football success it's ever known before leaving for a better job.

I know I wasn’t worried about Fickell leaving for WVU. I know he will be gone after this season but WVU just wasn’t a good fit at all. one catholic high school in Morgantown and not a real option as a football program for his oldest son who is a starter at Moeller.

The other strange notion is how they universally think that Cincinnati is this super sophisticated blueblood global city. They're breaking out the WVA smack like they live in Boston and Newport RI rolled into one. Have they never been to the West side, or some of the "communities" alongnthe river east of the city?
easy...Im a west sider. lol

And don't forget, they are just across the river from Kentucky.

Their airport is in Kentucky. They elected Jerry Springer mayor. What do you expect?

They fail to realize that they're a stepping stone and actually more similar to Miami(OH)...

According to James Laurinaitis, Fickell interviewed with Gordon Gee and declined the offer. (Wtf did Gee think he could say to Fickell to earn his respect or confidence?)

WVU is just such a horrible fit in the Big XII. Fick can do better. And if he just sits tight in Cincy and has success for the next several years then it's possible the OSU job might come open.

Article on how The Athletic about Cincinnati and Rutgers found a nice recruiting loophole that they used this year (that the NCAA will likely shutdown). Good on Coach Fickell for thinking outside the box.

How Cincinnati did this is what makes Phillips’ recruitment process so notable. Cincinnati, along with Rutgers, found and used a loophole in the NCAA rules to directly evaluate and build relationships with possible recruits in late winter, well ahead of the spring evaluation and summer camp period.

The rules regarding college football coaches and access to prospective student-athletes are complex and hard-and-fast, tied to certain periods of the calendar year. But coaches are always looking for an edge. There was drama over satellite camps a few years ago. Then there was running spring football on the IMG Academy campus.

Club teams became the latest loophole.

NCAA bylaw 13.11.2.4 allows any coach to get involved with or run a club team of prospects, as long as everything tied to it is held off campus and is not affiliated with the university. Prospective players must be within a 50-mile radius of the school, which, based on population density, makes this practice more advantageous for programs in metropolitan areas. The rule was intended to help coaches of non-revenue sports make a little extra income on the side in the summer. Basketball is specifically excluded, in part because of the AAU circuit. Football is not.

RE: Rivalry - Do We Have One/Do We Need One?

UC and Ohio University haven't played but a few times in the last 50-60 years. Same with UC and Marshall. The fact that we were playing North Texas State, Wichita and Tulsa back in the 50's, 60's and 70's rather than Ohio University, Marshall, WVU and Pittsburgh, not to mention local Big Ten schools really set our football program back. And, of course, Eggs and Dayton either dropped or de-emphasized football. It will never happen, but the reality is that UC, based on its institutional profile, should have been added to the Big 10 a long time ago. Unfortunately, our ineptness in both football and basketball in the 80's was another obstacle to our rise
