I'm okay with Lewis getting one more year. He's done enough for the organization in my IMO to allow for a down year when replacing the OC, the #2 and #3 receivers, an all-pro safety, and having Eifert, Green, and Bernard injured for various lengths of time. Not to mention getting nothing from the 1st round pick and having Burfict out due to being a moron.

Even though I'm a Steelers fan, I watch the Bengals(as I live in Cincinnati) and logically and without bias watch how they have become an inconsistent shitstorm of a franchise. I don't believe that Lewis deserved to be in Cincinnati this long. It's great that he's led them to a few AFC North titles and playoff appearances, but Lewis in Cincinnati is the equivalent to Cooper while at tOSU. Lewis has taken the Bengals to another level than where they were in the 90's before he arrived, but has reached his peak. Lewis' insistence on going after troubled players, when the Bengals locker room is and always has been unstable, has come back to bite him time and time again(Chris Henry, Adam Jones, Rey Maeluaga, Cedric Benson, Andre Smith, Frostee Rucker, etc). Teams lose coordinators every year, injuries happen every year, but to implode year after year in spectacular fashion is just unacceptable. Problem is, Mike Brown is complacent, too loyal and too cheap to make a change. He's fine with being good enough, Brown is almost like Donald Sterling formerly of the LA Clippers, he's fine with the team being good, and doesn't seem to care if the team gets over the hump. Just my .02

Bengals' Adam Jones charged after allegedly poking man in eye

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones faces several charges after he was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly pushing a security guard and poking him in the eye and then refusing to comply with law enforcement officers, according to Hamilton County Jail records.

Jones, 33, was arrested at a hotel near the Bengals' stadium and the city's entertainment district in downtown Cincinnati and booked in the jail at approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. He faces misdemeanor charges of assault, disorderly conduct and obstructing official business, and a felony count of harassment with a bodily substance.

When arrested, Jones refused to enter the police car and allegedly pulled away before kicking and head-butting an officer, jail documents said. He then spit on the hand of a nurse while he was being booked into the Hamilton County Justice Center.

Although Jones' base salary was guaranteed in 2016, he has no such guarantees on the final two seasons of his contract, and the team would save $6.3 million against the salary cap if they part ways with him in the offseason.

Bengals in a bind after Adam Jones' latest arrest

The NFL had no immediate response other than to say the incident was being reviewed under its personal conduct policy.

The policy states: "It is not enough simply to avoid being found guilty of a crime. Instead, as an employee of the NFL or a member club, you are held to a higher standard and expected to conduct yourself in a way that is responsible, promotes the values upon which the League is based, and is lawful. Persons who fail to live up to this standard of conduct are guilty of conduct detrimental and subject to discipline, even where the conduct itself does not result in conviction of a crime."

That means Jones could still face trouble with the league, even if he’s not in trouble with the law.

This will be a tricky situation for both the team and the league. Jones' troubled past isn’t going to do him any favors when the NFL reviews the incident.

Jones has found himself in the NFL’s crosshairs before. He has been involved in legal incidents and was suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for the entire 2007 season for off-the-field conduct related to a shooting incident in a Las Vegas nightclub earlier that year.

A man was left paralyzed after being shot by a gunman who claimed he was acting on Jones' orders. Jones was charged with felony coercion for his alleged role in the shooting. In December 2007, he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct, which resulted in probation for a year plus 200 hours of community service.

In 2012, Jones was ordered to pay $11 million to two of the nightclub employees who were wounded in the incident.

Jones also was acquitted in 2013 on an assault charge after a woman accused him of punching her outside a nightclub. He was not punished by the league.

The NFL could take those matters into account when reviewing Jones' situation. However, though he does have a troubled past, he has remained mostly out of the spotlight the past few years.

If they don't use this incident to correct that error then they deserve whatever else this idiot does in the future.

Not trying to pick on your post or anything, but the bolded is just one of many reasons he needs to be gone. I was the biggest Lewis apologist for the longest time, but the pattern just has never changed under him and he should have been gone after the Pittsburgh playoff game imo. Players constantly being in trouble both on and off the field, crucial mental errors when it actually matters, and at this point, it is just unacceptable to have zero post-season wins with the teams we have had. Yet we bring these players back and Marvin typically defends their behavior or justifies a slap on the wrist for serious issues.

As has already been stated, injuries and loss of staff happens to every team. But the franchises who are actually worth a damn overcome them. I think it was a mistake not keeping at least one of Sanu or Jones at WR. Eifert was unfortunate, as was Green, but we put ourselves in a position to lose regardless imo. You are correct that Marvin has brought the program a long ways and deserves a lot of credit for what he did. However, he does not deserve another year in Cincy at this point. To do so is to accept that mediocrity is the best this team can achieve and to me, that is unacceptable at this level. I really wish we could somehow make a push for Zimmer or Gruden to come back...either one would have been a huge improvement in my eyes, or at least deserved the chance.

On the bright side, I was able to buy a really nice dry-fit Bengals polo last week for about $10 after this awful season.

Yeah, I can't really argue with much of that....the continuing on-field idiocy of the players is the most damning thing. Somewhat in his defense, until Pacman went full-Pacman last week, the mooks actually have been pretty good off the field.

I'm certainly not pleased with this season (or how the last couple have ended), but I remember the 90's all too well and am probably a bit more willing to live with a mediocre to pretty good than most fans.

I definitely won't shed a tear if he gets canned, but I'm also okay if he doesn't.

Here's my offseason plan if I ran the Bengals:

  • Re-sign Zeitler, Whitworth, Kirkpatrick, Burkhead: Zeitler will be expensive but he's a top guard in the league so worth it, and we haven't seen nearly enough yet out of Ogbuehi/Fisher yet to justify giving either of them the blindside. Kirkpatrick made some strides last year, is reasonably young, and shouldn't come too expensive. Burkhead is cheap RB insurance + ST value.
  • Cut Pacman and Maualuga: Pacman's off-field stuff + high cap number and I've always hated Maualuga as a mediocre two-down thumper... think you assume you fill the Pacman gap with Jackson coming back (basically a 2nd first rounder this year since we didn't have him last year)
  • Let Hunt, Peko, Gilberry, Dansby, Winston walk
  • Sign a WR3/4 in FA: either bring back LaFell, or if you want to go younger (I would) look at someone in the TWilliams, Aiken, Marquess Wilson, Jeremy Kerley, Markus Wheaton ballpark
  • Sign an LB in FA: there's a lot of good 2nd tier LBs and with me saying let 2 starters go (Dansby + Maualuga) and not having seen enough from the back-ups, we may want to try to get someone in the Perry Riley/Malcolm Smith/Sean Spence tier

Draft:
  • 1st Round: DE - would love Solomon Thomas or Derek Barnett here (assuming no chance Allen drops but if he does, jizz your pants and get him immediately)
  • 2nd Round: WR - we need more weapons on offense, looking in the Chris Godwin, Juju Smith-Schuster, Dede Westbrook, Shelton Gibson range to give us a potent 3 WR set with AJ/WR2/Tyler Boyd
  • 3rd Round: LB - would say DT but we get Billings back, I've got us losing 2 starting LBs and Vontaze is a wildcard, so grab an LB like Raekwon, Kendell Beckwith, Alex Anzalone
  • 4th Round: DT - still think we need to shore up the DL + pass rush, maybe you look for a DE/DT hybrid but thinking a big ugly here
  • 4th Round: S - (comp pick 1: Jones) we were fine at safety last year, but unless we move Josh Shaw we definitely need depth here
  • 4th Round: OL - (comp pick 2: Sanu) either a C to push Bodine who has only been mediocre or OT depth for Whitworth getting old / project future tackle
  • 5th Round: QB - project QB... if McCarron is traded, this likely moves up in priority some
  • 6th Round: OL - opposite of previous pick
  • 6th Round: CB - never have too much corner depth
  • 6th Round: DT - never have too much DL depth, especially if we let both Peko and Gilberry walk
  • 7th Round: LB - additionally bodies to push new picks / insurance for Vontaze

This is completely unacceptable. Maybe one of the two but to let both walk after losing Smith? Shaking my head right now. I know taking Ogbuehi and Fisher signaled that they were the future at tackle and I was fine with it, but given the performance last year, we seriously needed to wait a year to make the transition. If you let Zeitler go, you at least keep Whit and slide him down to guard.

All this says to me is that we've officially given up. Keep Lewis and get rid of your foundation. If we're going to let these guys go, why not just implode the whole thing and get a new coach? We are going to give the Browns a run for their money at the bottom of our conference. There is just no scenario where this works out well. If I were Andy Dalton, I would pull a Carson Palmer and threaten retirement rather than keep playing.
