Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

I'm not a huge Lewis fan by any stretch, but as a lifelong Browns fan, I'm a little thrilled that we don't have to watch our D try to tackle him ever again.

Goodbye Droughns (I bet within one season).

Who knows, maybe after getting that bone spur removed, he can be a highly effective runner again like he was in 2003. He is only 27 afterall. If he has one character issue though, I'll be PISSED.

Lewis stops waiting on Ravens, agrees with Browns

By John Clayton

For two years, the Baltimore Ravens have wondered about Jamal Lewis' breakaway speed. They no longer have to wonder.

Lewis Lewis, the franchise's all-time leading rusher, broke away from the Ravens and agreed to a deal with the rival Cleveland Browns on Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed, but Lewis reached the agreement Wednesday night after a visit to Cleveland.

I don't hate this move. It gives the Browns a lot more options with the third pick. We may end up with Quinn, but I'm not as opposed to that idea, as I once was, either. Or, maybe we can still pull off that trade with Atlanta, and end up with Branch.

Hmmm... this may say a lot about the Browns draft intentions... I believe the 'interest' in Quinn is a smokescreen... to entice teams wanting Quinn to make a better offer... neither Quinn nor Russell would make any difference on the existing team... they'd be slaughtered just like Frye... at least Frye is mobile... notice Quinn refuses to participate in agility drills...

I think they have their eyes completely focused on Thomas... if they don't get him, they trade down... draft picks and experienced players (most likely DE, LB and/or DB...

A rookie QB does nothing to help NOW... Browns don't have years to wait for respectability.. the clock is ticking... they need a line... now... They can't rebuild every year... They need to keep Browns fans interested... and that requires a team at LEAST in the middle of the pack...

Most say A.P. is a future hall of fame... so MAYBE they go for Peterson and ease him into it.. but the Lewis move seems to make that a moot position... RBs only last a couple years so storing AP for rainy days does not seem to be in the cards...

Net net... Joe Thomas.. or trade down...

The Browns only signed Lewis to a 1 year deal. That is good for both b/c the Browns get to test drive the car before they are locked in for 4 years. It also give Lewis motivation to have a great year and land a big contract on the FA market next year.

That being said, I still think we take AP (if we don't trade down). I'll be f*cking dancing in the streets if we end up with a backfield of Lewis and AP!

And maybe its just me but I'm not totally sold on our WR position either boo-boo Braylon and Joey J,but after that everyone else is a question mark after that, this needs to be addressed either via free agency or draft

We don't have the best group in the league, but we have far more pressing needs at OL, DL, CB, and QB. WR is way down the list.

One step at a time man. That doesn't mean they aren't going to address the OL and DL.

I was just referring to the approximately 450 rushing yards they gave up to Lewis every year before he got hurt. Even if he ain't putting up 200 yard games for them, at least he won't be doing it against them any more.

GPA!!!!!

VERY well said. I agree totally that Joe Thomas looks like the guy. I was not a huge fan of his until lately. I like AP, but his injury history concerns me and he had a very average Sophmore season, I don't think he had injury problems that season. No doubt though, he could be the next great back, but I think we either got Thomas or trade down. I am not sure which would be better yet. Trading down could be nice if we pick up another 2nd or 3rd round pick and maybe an established player. As long as we don't trade down further than 10. At 10 we could still potentially get Levi Brown or even someone to help bulster the DL, like scUMmer, Branch. That all being said, I like the signing of Lewis. Even if we do keep Droughns, that would be a nice 1-2 punch, if we don't keep him, I like our chances with Lewis as our back instead of Droughns. I think his character issues are in his past. I like what Savage is doing so far and it could not come at a better time, this is a critical year for the Browns in so many ways, for coaches jobs, Savage's job potentially and the wavering faith of the die hard Browns fans that deserve much more than what they have gotten over the last few years.

I like the signing... stealing from a division rival is a double gain for us. Also I like the fact that Savaage is making a splash with his signings. With this signing I'd say that just about wraps up free agency for the Browns except for possibly a few minor signings so now Savafe can focus on the draft and hopefully bring 3 or 4 future starters onboard.

Absolutely, this team had some many needs coming into this offseason, there is no way they can fill every hole before the first game. They are doing a good job, IMO, so far of filling the biggest holes.
