Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

cleveland didn't make him GM either.

But he overruled Heckert on at least 1 decision on draft day. Clearly he has considerable input into player personal decisions. buckeyebri was pointing out that Holmgren's successes have come as a coach not as someone working in the capacity he is currently working in. Which is fair to point out.

good because i was laying it on pretty thick

I have to say, however, that would be the preferred way to do it, but the process SHOULD HAVE begun last year.

They are now 0 for 2 in each draft. They would be ready for Barkley next season if they had followed such a plan in the first friggin place.

Yes, thank you I was more referring to front office duties....my bad on GM vs. President.

Its Sunday 8:50 pm and this franchise is the worst its ever been.

Plane crash please.

Disagree. Joe Thomas has made 5 straight pro bowls. How many years in a row was Phil Dawson the browns only hope for putting a player in the pro bowl?

edit: I was curious. The browns didn't have a pro bowler for 5 straight years (2003-2007)

the only decision he's overruled was drafting colt mccoy in the 3rd because there wasn't draft room concensus after corey peters got taken.

They drafted an 86 year old QB IN THE FIRST ROUND!!!!!!!!!!!! have fun thinking they'll make the playoffs this year or next. with a punter and a LT. You are the reason the shitstains are still in town.

Holmgren awkwardly stated he overruled Heckert this draft. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...s_that_cl.html

They would still be in town even if they were only drawing 30K to home games.

The NFL does not want Cleveland to go without an NFL team right now. If they continue to suck, which I think they will for at least the next 3 years, then we'll see.

So we all agree, this is Cleveland management on draft day?

I simply cannot understand the Weeden/Hughes picks, at all. And I've spent a lot of time thinking about them.

The chances of Weeden being elite are minimal, so why go with a mediocre qb when we can "suck" for a year and get a high pick to use on a potentially elite qb next year. There's little chance of winning anything with a mediocre qb, unless you have a truly elite defense and a great rb (see the Jets and Ravens), but currently that's not happening. Ugh... I could go on and on but I'll stop here.

And seriously, what the [censored] were they thinking when they drafted Hughes in the 3rd round???

do you honestly think that Shumur and Holmgren would purposely try and suck to then get a high draft pick? they could be a 2-14 season away from possibly getting fired...and i wasnt pumped about the weeden pick at first but after sobering up and thinking about it, its not that bad and is a instant upgrade over colt McCoy...who the fuck knows maybe he is the answer...i at least hope he is...only thing i was dissapointed in is that we took him at #22...but i cant sit here and assume that we had offers to trade down, or that another team wanted to trade up and take him...the browns obviously like him...alot....the hughes pick was a reach of epic proportions...i still think a WR or CB at that spot would of been better

I don't think they would purposefully try to suck, I just think it was a bad idea to draft someone who was on the whole a mediocre quarterback in college (he should send Blackmon a ty note), and who will very likely be a mediocre quarterback in the nfl, with a prized first-round pick to replace a mediocre quarterback, and then expect something to change. And not only that, he's 28 years old! That's 7 less years of production you'll be seeing, and it seems unlikely to me that he will develop much at all considering his age.

That said, hopefully he will be "elite" or even "above-average" - it seems that the most criticized qb prospects are the ones who do the best. We will see.
