I think the Jason Campbell move is flat out dumb.. and a distraction more than anything... and I don't get signing so many iffy DBs too... maybe the plan is to have a big tryout this summer.. and see who sticks...

I was thoroughly impressed with Geno Smith 1st half of season... his accuracy was unbelievable... but then as teams figured him out.. it appears he cannot read defenses... which is death knoll in NFL... they'll eat him alive

I remember reading some scout say he has "slow eyes"... alluding to not seeing things quickly enuf.. and again a killer in the NFL

Geno has serious trouble coming off his first read. That became painfully obvious during the course of the Texas Tech game. He has decent mechanics but questionable arm strength (IMHO). As many have said before. He's a product of the same system Weeden came from. Except without having the gun for an arm.

As a Bears fan, I don't think Campbell is a bad signing. Although he was worthless as a Bear, that had a lot more to do with the Bears' god awful offensive line than it had to do with him. He can be an average quarterback with a good offensive line, a good running game, and at least half decent receivers. The Browns have all of that if Lombardi wants to make it a competition.

The Browns need a backup QB with a big arm. As long as Campbell is going to make less than McCoy was going to and can be cut at any time without a payout I don't have a problem with it. I still want the QB from hot chick Fredo in a later round to see if he can develop into an NFL QB.

I hope Colt enjoys Green Bay.

I have no idea what the Browns are doing and I don't think anyone else does either:crazy: Saying that, I can remember when Campbell came out of college. There was a lot of talk about the Browns drafting him with their first-round pick. However, that was another regime. I guess he has a big arm and Colt must not.

I would assume that Colt must be packing his bags right now for another destination. I think it is sort of shitty that the Browns don't release him but just keep him dangling.

I think if they were seriously considering drafting Smith there is no way that they would sign Campbell but I certainly don't know that for a fact.

I guess what I don't understand is why didn't they use some of the money that they have spent on Campbell and throw it at Grimes or Butler unless money was not the issue with those two guys.

I think you're jumping to conclusions too early. Did either of those guys sign someplace else? How much guaranteed money are they giving Campbell? I would be surprised if he is going to make more than McCoy was scheduled to make. They have seemed willing to throw money at the players they really want.

Well, I really want Butler and Grimes so have them throw some money at those guys before they do sign somewhere else. You know the old saying about "money talks..." :)

Just for comparison Campbell played for 3.5 mil last year and I don't think he did anything to earn more than that this year. I'll look for something in the 1-2 per year range with it doubled if he ends up taking >50% of the snaps. If they only plan on keeping him for a year the second year of the 2 year deal might be in the 4-5 mil range to make the total number look better in the news.

I'd imagine/hope the Browns plan is to trade Colt pre-draft or during the draft and try to pick up another late round pick, can't see him getting much more than a 6th rounder really though imo.

I don't think he has any value right now so they'll probably have to cut him. The only reason for a trade would be if someone likes his current contract or doesn't want to bid for him on the open market. Best case for the Browns 6th or 7th rounder.

Might see if they can pull a conditional pick for next year i.e. if he sees 50% of the snaps they get a 4th rounder and if he gets less than 10% of the snaps they get nothing.

I've been touting Honey Badger for months and been put on blast...Though small he has an uncanny ability to make plays on the ball...If be slips down to the fourth, without question do I take him...

As far as Campbell, at least he fits the mold for this offense...I think Weeden may flourish in a more vertical offense...Shurmer was bullheaded and would not adapt the offense to tailor his players skillset....The WCO is dead! It died with Bill Walsh damn it! I remember liking Campbell coming out of college...I like him as a backup alot more than the Brady Quinn's and Seneca Wallace's of the world...

Still, the lack of quality DB signings scares as well as Baltimore signing Huff and Dumervil...Things like that seem to always work out for the Ratbirds where we would
undoubtedly fail...Oh by the way, if we draft Geno Smith I am f**kin done!
