Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Given all the buzz about him not wanting to stay and sign an extension, that's probably inevitable regardless.

Everything I heard was next summer was the time for the extension. I feel like the "buzz" is mostly coming from NY. If he doesn't want to sign an extension before next season that would be the time to move him, but they were good last season and had very little playoff experience. I only watched the last 12 seconds of the game, but the Cavs aren't the same when they don't have the big 4. That being said they still beat a playoff team from last year. I feel like the last page or so of this thread is like the Dr. Pepper commercial where everyone gives up after the first play of the game.

It was one game, and they did manage to win it at the end thanks to an implosion by the Nets. But they don’t have anywhere near the depth they had last year. The bench scored like 17 points last night…fine if you’re the 86 Celtics, not so good for this team. Yes, not having all of the big 4 in hurts…but I feel like that’s a pretty regular occurrence throughout the season. Garland was more or less a GTD as it was, and he played sparingly in clutch time. Strus looks like a keeper, but Niang is terrible, and I don’t see where they go beyond the top 6 or 7, and that’s with everyone healthy. LeVert was the top option off the bench. After that…woof.

Also, the commentators were saying that chucking 40 3s is now basically the offensive game plan. I don’t see how that is sustainable, especially given how laughably bad this team looked rebounding most of last night. Strus hit a bunch, and Garland and Mitchell can get hot, but they’re going to miss a lot, and Mobley is not a glass cleaner. Obviously Allen will help with that, but if this team goes cold they’ll be out of a game in half a quarter.

I have no idea what Mitchell wants, a lot probably depends on how this season goes and what the prospects look like moving forward. This team needs front court depth, and lots of it.

Not going to be popular but I don't care, especially this week. The Cavs are a better TEAM without Mitchell in the lineup. If they could somehow manage to incorporate Mitchell's talent into the TEAM concept, they would be a serious title contender.

However, if we could go back at this stage and reverse the trade, I would do it to get Laurie back and Sexton. The 3 7 footer line was just dominant when they were all healthy.
