Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

It hurts if the goal is to have better draft picks to draft better players. Wait. It’s the Cavs. They’d fuck up the first 2 picks if they had them.
The 2020 NBA draft is going to be a historically bad one. The benefit of having the #1 pick versus #3 this year is debatable from a pure player quality standpoint. Not to mention the fact that the NBA doesn't let the team with the worst record win the lottery as easily now as they used to.

Besides, the name of the game here is acquire as many good players as you can and manage your cap and their age in the process (I realize that's the win the turnover battle version of basketball, and I'm not saying the Cavs are doing this either) but realistically the difference between the 3 and the 7 is usually luck. I'll take your word that 2020 sucks too. But past 10 it's a flyer anyway.

Oddly, I've watched 5 Cavs games this year amd they've won 3 and we're leading after 3 (or maybe down a point in one but in the game) in the 2 they lost. Best remedy for them. Run some fucking gassers... 3 minutes into the 4th quarter in all of them they just hit a wall and tried to hang on for dear life. I mean I get it, but it was odd.

The Cavs could certainly use a true big, and if they can use the trade to leverage re-signing Drummond then great, but at the same time their problems have been more defense-oriented. One thing they really need to do is to swap Osman out of the starting lineup for a great 3 & D wing.

Maybe he should give his heart and soul to FT shooting.

In this day and age, if a player thinks he’s somebody so special as to be treated like the organization’s own son, then they’re a certified idiot. It’s a business. You know how I know? You earn millions of fucking dollars! It’s happened a thousand times before to players greater than you. Wake up, dummy.

Even if the CAVS had a roster that could win more games than they have this season it makes no sense to win. Hence, the let up in their play at the end of games mentioned above, or the ridiculous load management for a team going nowhere.

When you realize that they only get a first round pick in 2020 if it falls inside the Top 10, all of this crap makes a little more sense. It sucks but without success in the draft, this franchise has no chance to compete.

The CAVS 2020 first round pick goes to Atlanta if it falls outside the Top 10 (Atlanta has already traded these rights to New Orleans). This is compensation for the Kyle Korver trade from years ago. This was the same in the 2019 draft with the pick going to Atlanta if outside the Top 10. If this pick isn't conveyed to Atlanta in 2020 if reverts to 2 future 2nd round picks instead of a 1st.

The smart thing for the CAVS to do is tank this season and last season. The argument of whether they are being smart and tanking or just suck and couldn't win if they tried is understandable.
